WARNING:
Use the scrubber in order to neutralize the sucked air before it arrives to
the vacuum pump.
Do not directly connect the vacuum pump to the digestion unit. This situa-
tion damages the vacuum pump.
Pump setup:
• Check that the drain tube is correctly inserted in the tank upper connector.
• Fill the tank with about 10-12 litres of low calcium content water.
• Set the external «Circulating water switch» in the OFF position.
The pump is now ready to be used.
Pump start:
When switching «ON» the main switch, the pump starts suction by means of «TAP1»
and «TAP2» ports.
To check if it is correctly working, please close with the finger «TAP1» and «TAP2»
ports and check the vacuum-meter indicates around 0.098.
6.2 Gas neutralizer: «Scrubber»
The scrubber bottles and the vacuum pump tank must be filled with a sodium car-
bonate dissolution to neutralize the digestion acids gases.

6.2.1 Neutralization reagent addition
Bottle 1: 600ml water + 150gr Na
Bottle 2: 600ml water + 150gr Na
Vacuum pump tank: 10gr Na
It is important to check that there's no leak in the hose connections. To do this, once
the hose is connected to the vacuum pump, check that the vacuum level in the pump
is about 0.098 by closing with the finger the gas entry on the collector fume's side.
6.3 Starting the complete digestion system
The suggested sequence for preparing and starting the complete digestion system is:
• Prepare the reagents and the samples in the digestion tubes. See the digestor's
instructions.
• Program the temperature controller for a three steps digestion cycle. According to
the digestor instructions manual.
• Insert the sample tubes in the block-digestor and cover them with the fume collector.
• Check that the vacuum pump is ready. That is, the water tank and the external
circulating are OFF.
• Check that the scrubber bottles have the anydride sodium carbonate solution. (See
6.2.1)
