8. CLEANING AND DISINFECTION
WARNING!
Considering the large number of variables present in these processes, always
carry out a preliminary test before each treatment. The indications below are to
be considered as indicative only.
8.1 Washing
Detergents containing oxidising and bleaching agents, such as hypochlorite and perborate, must
be used diluted in water and in the concentrations normally used for cotton linen. The article
can be washed with water and normal detergent, but always roll it up and tie it before placing
in the washing machine or spin dryer.
8.2 Wringing
Use either a wrangle (1/4 gap between the rollers) or a low-speed spin cycle.
8.3 Drying
Use a forced-air heater (maximum temperature of 70°C). Alternatively, dry the mattress in
a room, away from sunlight and in air currents, although the drying time will obviously be much
longer in this case.
8.4 Disinfection
Follow the instructions of the supplier of the disinfecting system.
•
Spraying the surface with disinfectant solutions
Indicatively, after being sprayed with common disinfectants, the foam can be dried with
a normal forced-air heater, at a maximum temperature of 70°C.
•
On-site insufflation with gases, vapours or aerosols
The high degree of permeability and the absence of thickening or felting means that the
mattress is more suitable than any other type to efficient insufflation with disinfectants.
8.5 Immersion in solutions
If quaternary ammonium compounds are used, do not rinse or spin, but simply drip-dry or dry
as described in the paragraph on "washing": this ensures that the residue of the quaternary
ammonium compounds that remains is sufficient to maintain a lengthier bactericidal effect.
