Introduction
This document is intended for experienced engineers who
are familiar with PAC products and health and safety
considerations. An installation diagram is given. The PAC
500 should be installed in a secure location and positioned
for easy access by authorised personnel. Further
information on hardware installation is given in the
installation guide provided on CD. Information on software
installation and operation is given in documentation and
help files provided with the administration software.
Note
It is recommended that the PAC 500 has compatible firmware
to its controllers (e.g. a PAC 500 connected to controllers with
2.6 firmware must have 2.6 firmware also). Therefore, a
firmware download to the new PAC 500 may be required, see
the help file for details.
Tamper and Override Terminal
Because tamper and override are normally closed
switches, use a short piece of cable to link the TAMP and
0V terminals and OVRD and 0V terminals before powering
up.
RS-485
If shielded cables are used, connect the shield on one
controller to 'Earth'. The first and last controllers in the
chain (and no others) must have the RS-485 termination
jumper linked (set to IN). The red RS-485 LED indicates
when the controller is transmitting data and green RS-485
LED indicates when there is data on the network.
One-Touch™ Test Mode
To speed up installation and testing, One-Touch™ testing is provided which allows the communication to the controllers
to be tested.

Training and Technical Support
Training courses covering the installation and use of all PAC products are regularly held at PAC Stockport. For further
information on course availability, or to discuss your specific requirements, contact the Training Manager at the PAC
address.
It is strongly recommended that any persons installing or commissioning PAC products attend a suitable
training course beforehand.
Technical Support for all PAC products is provided primarily for the use of trained engineers. Technical support is
available during normal office hours:
8:30 to 5:30pm (UK time) Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
End users of PAC products should first of all contact their installation or maintenance company before
contacting PAC.
