LANGELESS INSTALLATION
Aculux flangeless adapters are intended to be used only with Aculux Initia new
construction or remodel housings and corresponding flangeless trims.
For best results, use Aculux Initia flangeless adapters with new, unpainted, paper-
faced gypsum board only. Use of these adapters with other ceiling materials is not
recommended.
Note: For the best appearance, at minimum a Level 4 drywall finish for textured
ceilings and a Level 5 drywall finish for flat ceilings is recommended. In addition,
use of a setting-type joint compound such as Sheetrock® brand Durabond® is
recommended to increase durability and prevent the formation of hairline cracks
over time.
Step 1. Install Aculux Initia housing and gypsum board ceiling per instruction
provided. Confirm the ceiling cutout dimensions (Table 1). The aperture must be
centered in this cutout to produce a uniform 1/8" gap between drywall and recessed
housing.
Step 2. Aculux Initia flangeless adapters contain a high-performance 3M™ adhe-
sive for permanent attachment to the ceiling. The mating drywall surface must be
clean and free of dust for maximum adhesion. Using a damp cloth or sponge, wipe
the drywall surface where the adapter will be installed to remove any dirt or dust.
Step 3. If necessary, lower the LED assembly so the adapter fits evenly around the
outside of the LED assembly
Aculux Initia fixtures are compatible with a thickness range from 1/2" minimum to 1-1/2" maximum with no additional accessories. They are not compatible with ceilings
thicker than 1-1/2".
For best results, the installer should cut a clean opening matching the dimensions in the table below for the specific configuration, flange style, and housing style of the
product. Compatibility of the fixture and ceiling cutout should be checked before permanently attaching ceiling material to structure.

(for Flangeless Adapters)
Step 4. Peel off 3M™ adhesive release liner, line-up parts (per step 4), and firmly
press flangeless adapter onto drywall. Hold for at least 5 seconds for a bond to
develop. Do not remove the paint shield.
Step 5. The Aculux flangeless adapters contain multiple features to promote
maximum adhesion of the joint compound to the part. With paint shield in place,
proceed in applying and feathering multiple thin layers of a setting-type joint com-
pound (such as Sheetrock® brand Durabond®) according to the Level 4 or Level 5
drywall finishing requirements specified. Smooth and/or sand joint compound so
the ¼" flat surface around the inside perimeter of the adapter is barely visible.
Step 6. Prime and paint the ceiling.
Step 7. Level fixture LED assembly per housing instructions
Note: The line on the inside surface of adapter can be used as a visual indicator
for correct height of the bottom of LED assembly
Step 8. Carefully remove the paint shield from the fixture by pulling straight down.
A utility knife or scraper may be used to remove any excess paint or joint com-
pound from the inside surface of the flangeless adapter.
Step 9. Install trim according to the instructions supplied
