2. Installation
2.3 Cascaded Installation
Additional monitors can be added by cascading up to 3 levels of splitters. For example, you can connect 64
monitors by cascading a B118-304-R from each output port on the first level B118-304-R, and then cascading
a B118-304-R to each output port on the 4 second level B118-304-Rs. To allow for greater flexibility when
extending the number of monitors you are connecting, the B118-302-R and B118-304-R can be cascaded
together.

All cables are Tripp Lite P568-series HDMI M/M cables:

maximum length 16 ft. ( Part # P568-016)
To perform a cascaded installation:
Note: The max distances referenced in these instructions have been tested using a 12-bit, 1080p, 60Hz source
and 28 AWG HDMI cables. Longer distances between the splitter and the connected monitors are achievable
using 24 AWG HDMI cable and/or a source with lesser resolution specifications. Likewise, sources with higher
resolutions will require a shorter distance between the splitter and the connected monitors.
1
Connect the HDMI source to the input port of the first level splitter using the included 1 ft. HDMI cable
(B118-302-R only), or a Tripp Lite P568-Series HDMI Cable. The distance between the source and the
splitter must not exceed 16 ft. (5 m).
2
Connect the input port of a second level splitter to an available output port on the first level splitter using
a Tripp Lite P568-Series HDMI Cable. The distance between the first level splitter and the second level
splitter must not exceed 25 ft. (7.5 m). Repeat this step for each additional second level splitter you wish to
add. (If you are stopping the cascaded installation at two levels, proceed to step 4.)
3
Connect the input port of a third level splitter to an available output port on a second level splitter using
a Tripp Lite P568-Series HDMI Cable. The distance between the second level splitter and the third level
splitter must not exceed 25 ft. (7.5 m) Repeat this step for each third level splitter you wish to add.
4
Connect a HDMI monitor to an available output port on one of the last level splitters using a Tripp Lite
P568-Series HDMI Cable. Use a Tripp Lite P566-Series HDMI to DVI-D Single-Link Cable to connect a
DVI-D single-link monitor.* The distance between the last level splitter and the connected monitors must
not exceed 25 ft. (7.5 m). Repeat this step for each monitor you wish to add.
5
Connect the external power supply to each of the splitters, starting with the first level splitter and working
your way up to the second and third levels. It is recommended that you plug the power supply into a Tripp
Lite Surge Suppressor. When powered on, the power LED will illuminate to indicate the unit is receiving
power. The output LEDs will illuminate to indicate a signal is being transmitted from source to display, or
from splitter to splitter.
*DVI monitors will not provide audio when receiving a signal from the splitter.
2.4 Extending Distance to Connected Display
The distance between the source and the connected monitors can be extended using a Tripp Lite HDMI
extender product. The distances the signal can be extended depend on the type of cable being used and the
quality of the signal coming from the HDMI source. For example, a 1080i signal can be extended further than
a 1080p signal. For information on extended applications, reference the literature included in the B118-302-R
and B118-304-R product pages on Tripp Lite's website.
