USB communication box

Intended use
The USB communication box is used for connecting a BTL
magnetostrictive linear position sensor to a PC. Opening
the USB communication box or non-approved use are not
permitted and will result in the loss of warranty and liability
claims against the manufacturer.
DANGER
Uncontrolled system movement
f The system must be taken out of operation before
configuration.
f BTLs may only be connected to the communication
box for configuration.
f The communication box must be removed after
configuration.
General safety notes
Installation and startup may only be performed by
trained specialists.
The operator is responsible for ensuring that local safety
regulations are observed. In particular, the operator must
take steps to ensure that a defect in the position
measuring system will not result in hazards to persons or
equipment.
Function
The communication box connects the communication
lines La and Lb to the USB port on the PC. The BTL can
be configured on the PC using the "BTL7 Configuration
Tool" PC software. With BTL7 USB-configurable, the
supply cables and outputs are looped through to the
controller.

Connecting the communication box
The USB communication box may not be
connected to the PC when installing the
configuration tool. It will be set up after the
configuration tool is started for the first time.
Connecting the BTL7-... USB-configurable with plug:
1. Disconnect the connector from the BTL.
2. Connect a cable with suitable connector to the
communication box.
3. Connect the communication box connection cable to
the BTL and the continuing cable.
Connecting the BTL7-... USB-configurable with
cable:
1. Connect communication line La (RD - red) and Lb (WH
- white) to the wire colors RD (red) and WH (white) on
the luster terminal.
2. Connect reference potential GND (BU - blue) to the
wire color BU (blue) on the luster terminal.
3. Connect the cable to the communication box.
Connecting the PC:
1. Connect the USB cable to the communication box.
2. Connect the USB cable to the PC.
