Infrared Reflection Light Barrier
GB
with Audio Signal
Please read these operating instructions carefully
prior to installing and operating the light barrier. Thus,
you will get to know all functions of the unit, operating
errors will be prevented, and yourself and the unit will
be protected against any damage caused by improper
use. Please keep the operating instructions for later
use.
1 Applications
This reflection light barrier serves for detecting per-
sons or objects, e. g. for security surveillance of en-
trance doors. It operates with infrared light at a maxi-
mum reflector distance of 7 m. When the light beam is
interrupted on its way from the transmitter (5) via the
reflector (1) to the receiver (7), a signal (2-tone chime
or siren) will sound via the speaker (12). The volume
of the signals and the duration of the siren signal are
adjustable. An output jack allows connection of an
additional unit for evaluating the interruption of the
light beam (e.g. counting device).
2 Safety Notes
The light barrier corresponds to the directive for elec-
tromagnetic compatibility 89/336/EEC. The power
supply unit supplied also corresponds to the low volt-
age directive 73/23/EEC.
WARNING The plug-in power supply unit is supplied
with hazardous mains voltage (230 V~).
Never make any modification on the
power supply unit, otherwise you will risk
an electric shock!
Please observe the following items in any case:
The units are suitable for indoor use only. Protect
them against dripping water and splash water, high
air humidity, and heat (admissible ambient tempera-
ture range 0 – 40 °C).
Do not operate the light barrier and immediately dis-
connect the power supply unit from the socket
1. in case of visible damage to the units,
2. if a defect might have occurred after a unit was
dropped or suffered a similar accident,
3. if malfunctions occur.
In any case the units must be repaired by skilled per-
sonnel.
As long as the power supply unit is connected to a
live socket, it will have a low power consumption.
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth; never use
water or chemicals.
No guarantee claims for the light barrier and no lia-
bility for any resulting personal damage or material
damage will be accepted if the light barrier is used
for other purposes than originally intended, if it is not
correctly installed, or not repaired in an expert way.

If the light barrier is to be put out of opera-
tion definitively, take it to a local recycling
plant for a disposal which is not harmful to
the environment.
3 Installation
Notes concerning the place of installation
– When using several light barriers, install them in
such a way that they will not interfere with one an-
other.
– For objects with a reflective surface, the light barri-
er should be installed in such a way that the objects
will pass through the infrared light beam at an
angle, otherwise they may not be detected.

3.1 Mounting and connection

1) For the time being, provisionally install the reflector
(1) with its mounting bracket (2) and the transmit-
ter/receiver unit (3) with its mounting bracket (4) in
such a way that they will face each other. Observe
the maximum distance of 7 m between them.
2) Connect the plug (8) of the transmitter/receiver unit
to the jack INPUT (18) of the speaker unit.
3) The jack OUTPUT (11) allows connection of an-
other unit for evaluating the interruption of the light
beam (e. g. counting device). This connection
should be made by skilled personnel only. Make
sure that the maximum current rating of 100 mA of
the output will not be exceeded. The function and
the contact configuration can be found in figure 2.
4) Finally connect the plug-in power supply unit to the
low-voltage jack DC9V (16) of the speaker unit and
to a socket (230 V~/50 Hz).
3.2 Aligning the light barrier
To indicate the operating state, the transmitter/re-
ceiver unit is equipped with an LED which will facilitate
the alignment of the light barrier. The LED (6) will light
up if the light barrier is correctly aligned. It will be extin-
guished if the transmitter/receiver unit (3) and the
reflector (1) are not correctly aligned to each other, if
the reflector and the transmitter/receiver unit are too
far apart, or if the light beam is interrupted.
1) Align the reflector in such a way that the LED will
light up when the light beam is not interrupted.
2) Also realign the transmitter/receiver unit, if re-
quired.
3) After optimum alignment of the light barrier, fasten
it definitively.
3.3 Adjusting the audio signal
1) Set the switch (9) to the desired position.
CHIME: 2-tone chime
ALARM: siren
OFF:
2) As soon as the light beam is interrupted, the audio
signal selected will sound once. Use a small screw-

driver to adjust the volume of the signal at the con-
trol VOLUME (17) and the duration of the sound
"siren" at the control TIMER (10) from 3 to 30 sec-
onds.
3) The switching OUTPUT (11) will respond like the
LED (6): In stand-by mode it will be switched
through; it will be blocked while the light beam is
interrupted.
4) After adjusting, either suspend the speaker unit
from a screw head directly via its mounting hole
(14) [figure 3] or use the bracket (13) for installing it
as shown in figure 4; for this purpose, screw the
supplied screws through the bracket into the holes
provided (15).
