FLASH TUBE REPLACEMENT

As VDAS strobe lights are used, the flash tubes begin to darken causing
the light output to decrease. This darkening is characteristic of flash
tubes. The darkening will begin near the base of the tube and progress
upward approximately 3/4 to 1" indicating end of lamp life. As the flash
tube ages, it may misfire (not fire periodically). Should the flash tube
misfire, have a noticeable decrease in light output, glow continuously or
darken to a point shown beyond that in Figure 1, it should be replaced.
1) Disconnect power to luminaire and allow to cool completely.
2) Unscrew globe assembly counter clockwise.
3) With globe holder removed, gently remove the flash tube leads from
their pins and remove the tube from its socket. A slight rocking
motion may help when installing and/or removing the flash tube.
4) Perform cleaning and inspection as noted in the MAINTENANCE
section.
5) Install replacement flash tube and securely tighten. Use only Cooper
Crouse-Hinds authorized replacement part number RSTC as
identified in the REPLACEMENT PARTS section of this Installation
and Maintenance document. The red dot on the bottom of the flash
tube indicates the positive terminal. This terminal must be connected
to the positive terminal (marked +) on the P.C. board. Factory
packaged flash tubes are clean and ready for use. If touched with
bare hand or dirty cloth during installation, wash tube with water and
wipe dry with a clean cloth or tissue before installing. Finger prints
or grease left on the tube will result in early lamp failure.
To avoid shortened lamp life, tighten lamp firmly and completely.
To avoid injury, guard against lamp breakage.
6) Thoroughly clean or replace O-ring gasket seal.
7) Apply a liberal amount of HTL lubricant to threads.
8) Reassemble luminaire by threading globe assembly onto body
casting until seated against body casting flange.
To maintain enclosure integrity, make sure all globe and body
casting threads are fully engaged.

1. Disconnect power to luminaire and allow to cool completely.
2. Unscrew globe assembly counter clockwise.
3. Remove the subassembly by loosening the two screws that secure
the subassembly to the body casting. Disconnect the wire connectors
from the subassembly.
4. Perform cleaning and inspection as noted in the MAINTENANCE
section.
5. Reconnect wire connector to replacement electronic strobe
subassembly and secure unit to main casting with two screws
previously removed. See figure 2. Use only replacement strobe
subassemblies rated as the same voltage as specified on the
luminaire nameplate. Factory packaged flash tubes are clean and
ready for use. If touched with bare hand or dirty cloth during
installation, wash tube with water and wipe dry with a clean cloth or
tissue before installing. Finger prints or grease left on the tube will
result in early lamp failure.
