Hold the meter at right angles and to the centre of the fly trap when taking a
measurement, see figure 1.
Note – Slight movements away from this angle will give incorrect readings
The 10-point coloured LED bar indicator scale is used to determine the condition
of the UVA output levels of a given trap. Table 2 below explains how the scale
should be interpreted.

1.
Using Table 1 establish the measuring distance point from the fly trap
2.
Press either button labelled 'A' (Ambient) or 'S' (Source) to turn the unit
on – The LED's will illuminate in a sweeping motion form left to right and
back again, twice. After the sweeping the red LED number 1 will blink on
and off repeatedly.
3.
To measure the ambient UV light level you must first switch OFF the fly
trap. Point the meter in the general direction of the fly trap at a similar
distance as specified and press button A (Ambient). The green LED
number 10 will now blink on and off repeatedly. This indicates that the
meter has stored the ambient UV level of the room
4.
Switch ON the fly trap.

5.
Point the meter directly at the UV lamps in the fly trap at the correct
distance and press button S (Source) once, See figure 1. The meter will
now have measured the UV light levels emitting from the trap and will
have subtracted the ambient UV level in the room. The result will then
be displayed on one of the 10 LED bar indicators by illuminating a single
LED continuously. Note – the red LED number 1 will also blink on and off
repeatedly to indicate the meter has performed its calculation correctly.
If a continuous assessment of UV is required, perform operation 5 but hold
button S (Source) down continuously. If you now move the meter closer to the
fly trap the reading should increase and vice-versa if you move the meter away it
will decrease. Releasing the button stores the last instantaneous reading.
The illuminated LED will remain on
without the need to hold any buttons until
the meter powers down. This happens
automatically 20-30seconds after the last
press of any button.

When surveying a site prior to the installation of fly control units, ambient
UV levels should be measured to prevent poor trap location and to select
appropriate wattage fly traps.

1.
Press either button labelled 'A' (Ambient) or 'S' (Source) to turn the unit
on – The LED's will illuminate in a sweeping motion form left to right and
back again, twice. After the sweeping the red LED number 1 will blink on
and off repeatedly.
2.
Press and HOLD button S (Source). Now whilst still holding the S button
down, Point the meter in the general direction of the siting. The meter will
continuously display the UV light level (If any) in that area. Note – very low
levels will not illuminate any LED's.
3.
Choose the optimum location for the siting of a fly trap by choosing a
place with the lowest ambient light reading.
Note that: If you are unable to find a low ambient light reading a higher wattage
fly trap will be required to compete with the high levels of surrounding light.
Different times of day may produce different readings according to the amount
of sunlight present.
