Description
An automatic light switching system which operates by sensing
movement of infra-red radiation from the human body in selected
areas. The unit incorporates occupancy detection, photocell and
switching all in one ceiling mount unit.
Location
The sensor should be mounted on a rigid surface where it has a clear
view of the occupancy zone, and should preferably be mounted in front
of rather than behind activity.
The sensor is designed to be recessed into suspended ceilings.
Position where the sensor does not look out of a door.
Avoid placing adjacent to forced air heating or cooling systems (1 metre
or more in direct flows).
Mounting
The sensor should be mounted through a hole (42-45mm dia.) as
shown in Figure 1, minimum ceiling void to be 150mm.
Electrical connection
Installation should be carried out by a suitably qualified electrician.
IMPORTANT: Ensure the electrical supply is isolated.
1.
Fix unit in position.
2. Connect the wiring as shown in the diagram, (Figure 2).
3. Remove the lens cover from the sensor to expose the time delay
and light level adjusters, (Figure 3).
4. Ensure time delay is at maximum i.e. RV2 fully clockwise, (Figure 4)
5. Ensure light level adjustment is fully clockwise. RV1, (Figure 4).
6. Reinstate mains supply to unit. The unit powers up ON, so wait ten
minutes for the unit to stabilise.
7. Using an insulated adjuster, set RV2 fully anti-clockwise (test mode)
and ensure unit switches off when there is no movement, and
switches on when movement is detected in the detection zone.
8. Set RV2 to required delay and adjust photocell as required.
Operation
IMPORTANT:
The unit is fully automatic.
Lighting will operate when powered up.
The existing light switch can be retained as an over-ride OFF, an over-
ride ON can also be incorporated if required (Figure 5).
Photocell
IMPORTANT: The photocell is easiest to set up when lights are
required to switch on i.e. when it is dull.
1. Using an insulated adjuster, turn dial RV1 fully anti-clockwise. The
lights being controlled will go off in approx. 30 seconds, (for ease of
set up the delay can be reduced to 5 seconds by putting the unit in
test mode).
2. Turn RV1 until the green LED glows. This is the level at which lights
will come on, however this will only activate after 30 seconds as
there is a buffer to stop short dull spells making the lights flash on
and off.
3. When the lights come on the unit automatically takes a snapshot of
the new light level. The OFF level is set at a slightly higher level
automatically. This ensures the OFF level is higher than that created
by the lights. Light level operation is now fully automatic.
4. If the light level setting is too high it can only be reduced by
repeating set up from step 1 above.
2
Time delay
RS Stock No.
Setting
248-4747
Set the delay (RV2), to the required level.
Recommended delays
Office - Low traffic 16 minutes
Office - High traffic 8 minutes
Classroom - 8 minutes
Corridor - 8 minutes
Fault finding
Q. Lights will not come ON.
A. Check power is on.
Q. Lights go on and off every 10 seconds.
A. Time delay is in test mode (10s).
Q. Lights go off when I am working but come on when I move.
A. Re-position sensor or increase time delay.
Q. Can I override the photocell and use detection only?
A. Yes. Turn RV1 fully anti-clockwise,then fully clockwise.
Q. Can I use the photocell only?
A. No.
Detection pattern
In a 2.75m ceiling, detectors should be spaced at 5 metre intervals to
ensure overlap of detection.
