Silverline harnesses, lanyards and work positioning belts are
issued with a declaration of conformity which should be kept
safe for future reference.
Inspection & Pre-Use Checks
A thorough visual inspection should be carried out on all products before use.
This inspection should include (but is not limited to) the following:
• Check all webbing for signs of cuts, abrasions, fraying, tears, burns, mould,
discolouration or chemical attack
• Check all stitching for signs of loose threads, pulling or cuts. Stitch pattern
must be identical on both sides
WARNING: If the pattern is not visible because of paint etc, DO NOT USE.
• Buckles and D-rings must be free from rust, distortion, excessive wear
or cracks
• Lanyards must be no longer than 2m
NOTE: If, during inspection, any part of the fall arrest system is deemed to be
faulty, it must be removed from service and destroyed. Repairs, modifications or
alterations must not be carried out on any of these products.
NOTE: All Silverline harnesses and lanyards are designed to arrest a fall from
height ONCE ONLY.
WARNING: If the harness/lanyard has been subjected to a fall arrest then it
must be removed from service immediately and destroyed.
Maintenance, Cleaning & Storage
• Silverline harnesses, lanyards and work positioning belts should be stored in
their original packaging away from sources of humidity, sunlight and direct
heat
• Webbing products may be cleaned in water not exceeding 40°C, using a mild,
pH-neutral detergent
• Allow the product to dry naturally before storage (DO NOT force dry)
Rescue Plan
• As part of the risk assessment you MUST have in place a rescue plan before
working at height, to deal with any emergency that may arise
Service Life
• Every Silverline webbing product has a service life of five years from the date
of first use. A new harness can be stored in its original packaging for a
maximum of five years and still retain its five-year working life
