SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:

• Always wear safety goggles.
• Avoid skin contact with refrigerant or refrigerant oil.
• Work in a well ventilated area.
• Never release refrigerant into the atmosphere.
• Never expose refrigerant containers to direct heat or temperature in excess of 125°F.
• Never expose refrigerant to an open flame.
CAUTION: Do not remove protective caps from the accumulator until it is ready for
connection. If the accumulator is left uncapped for a long time, the desiccant inside the
accumulator may absorb moisture, limiting its longevity. A poorly functioning accumulator may
cause damage to the air conditioning system.
ACCUMULATOR
Accumulator Removal
The information below explains necessary procedures and tools to remove and install
accumulators.
NOTE: For more detailed instructions please refer to the vehicle manufacturer's service manual.
1. Temporarily loosen the inlet and outlet hose/tube connectors on the accumulator or
other hose/tube connectors on the accumulator assembly. The inlet connection at the
accumulator will be attached to the hose/tube leading from the evaporator.
NOTE: Accumulator hose/tube connectors vary between specific vehicle applications including
spring lock, block union and union-nut types. For more detailed instructions please refer to the
vehicle manufacturer's service manual.
2. Loosen the retaining hardware securing the accumulator.
3. Remove the two hoses/tubes from the accumulator or fully loosen the two outlet hose/
tube connectors on the accumulator assembly. Be careful not to damage or deform the
hoses/tubes during removal.
4. Remove the accumulator or accumulator assembly.
5. Drain and measure the existing refrigerant oil from the accumulator or accumulator
assembly.
