B)
The included anchors cannot penetrate wood studs, so we have to use a stud-finder to locate the studs in the
mounting area and mark their locations with a pencil mark. If the five vertically-aligned pencil marks of Step (A)
happen to align with a stud, then use only the provided screws to secure this first rail to the wall. In such instance,
have another person hold the rail against the wall so that the holes align with the wall marks and then use a
screwdriver to secure a screw through each hole of the rail and directly into the wall and stud. Rotate each
screw clockwise until tight.
At this point, you should have one rail secured to the wall. Notice that the rail includes several evenly spaced
projecting nail heads. These heads are used to engage the keyholes located on the back of the shelving and
the desk unit and hold these items to the rails. We recommend that you use an assembled shelf unit to help
position the next rail on the wall.
C)
Using an assembled shelf (either a 2 or 3 foot), engage the keyholes of the shelf with the two uppermost projecting
heads located on the wall-mounted rail (make sure to continue to hold the shelf during this step). With the help of
another person, engage the remaining two keyholes of the shelf with the same two heads of the not-yet-mounted
(second) rail and lightly pull up on this "free" rail so that the two rails support the shelf. While holding the free second
rail against the wall, position a level on the shelf, and once level, use the pencil to mark the wall only through the
upper hole of the free rail. Carefully disengage the shelf from both rails and set the shelf and the free rail aside.
D)
Use the procedure of Step (B) above to determine if this single mark aligns with a stud and install an anchor at this
mark if necessary. With the help of another person, hold the free rail against the wall so that the upper hole aligns
with the stud-aligned mark or an installed anchor and then use a provided screw to secure the free rail to the wall
ONLY at the upper hole. Do not fully tighten this single upper screw. This second rail should be allowed to pivot
slightly about the mounting screw.
E)
Reattach the same shelf used in Step (C), but this time secure it to the lowermost heads along both rails. Once
engaged, you do not have to hold the shelf, but simply use a pencil to mark the remaining four holes of the second
rail. Set the shelf aside and use the procedure of Step (B) above to secure the second rail to the wall. You can
carefully pivot the rail out of the way if you have to install an anchor at any of the marks. Do not secure the screws
into the rail until all required anchors have been installed into the wall along the length of that rail. Once done, use
the provided screws to secure the second rail to the wall.
F)
The two rails should now be properly aligned and are ready to support the shelve and the desk.
G)
Use Steps (C) and (D) to install additional rails along the wall, as necessary.
