3.6 Functional description

The OBD connection cable is used to connect the KTS
250 to the vehicle. Operation is by hand using the TFT
touchscreen and the on-screen keyboard. While the de-
vice is connected to the vehicle by OBD interface, it is
possible to perform a control unit diagnosis and to
read the OBD fault memory of the vehicle. An external
printer (optional accessory) connected by WLAN can be
used to print the data and measured values. The
KTS 250 and the accessories are supplied in a protec-
tive case.

3.6.2 Network port
The network port serves to provide a stable internet
connection in locations where a WLAN connection can-
not be reliably maintained due to interference.
The network port can be used during initial com-
missioning and for software updates.

3.6.3 Storage battery
The storage battery is permanently integrated into the
housing and cannot be changed from the outside.
The fully charged storage battery of the KTS 250 is de-
signed to guarantee approx. 2 hours of independent op-
eration.
The KTS 250 can be operated with the following volt-
age supply:
• Storage battery
• Power supply unit
• OBD connection cable
With the OBD connection cable plugged in, the
KTS 250 is supplied with power by the vehicle
and recharged.
Charge the storage battery for at least 2 hours
before using the KTS 250 in battery mode.

3.6.4 Operating system
The KTS 250 runs a closed operating system developed
on the basis of AOSP (Android Open Source Project). It
is not possible to install third-party software or apps
(e.g. from the Google Play Store).

3.6.5 Status LED
The status LED on the back of the housing indicates
various statuses of the KTS 250:
LED off
KTS 250 not switched on.
LED flashes green 1 time per second
Normal operation. KTS 250 starting or already active
(also in power-saving mode).
LED flashes green every 5 seconds
KTS 250 is switched off and being charged.
LED flashes yellow 1 time per second
Internal communication failure.

4. Initial Operation

4.1 Setting up the KTS 250
Before initial commissioning, make sure the volt-
age supply matches the voltage rating of the pow-
er supply unit provided.
The KTS 250 supports WLAN frequencies in the
2.4-GHz range of channels 1 (2412 MHz) to 11
(2462 MHz). WLAN computer networks outside
the frequency range are not displayed.
The WLAN configuration always depends on the
configuration of the router / access point availa-
ble.
The "Extended Range" function is not supported.
