TRANSPORT AND STORAGE OF THE
GAS CYLINDER
Although perfectly safe when handled
correctly, lack of caution may result in fire
and/or explosion.
To minimise the risks:
• Never store the cylinder in a buil-
ding, garage or other enclosed area,
but always in a well-ventilated area
• Never store the cylinder in the
vicinity of another gas operated ap-
pliance, or in a very warm area, such
as a car or boat
• Always keep the cylinder out of
reach for children
• Always transport and store the cylin-
der in an upright position
• Do not smoke near the gas cylinder.
USE
PRIOR TO FIRST USE / AFTER
PROLONGED PERIOD OF NON-USE
Do not use the barbecue before you have
read, understood and checked all informa-
tion in this manual.
Ensure that:
• The barbecue is correctly installed
• There is no leak in the gas supply
(see 'Leakage test')
• The burners are correctly installed,
the venturi tubes are properly placed
over the openings of the gas valves,
and there are no obstructions (see
safety information and cleaning of
the burners)
• None of the gas supply hoses can
come into contact with a hot surface
• Your barbecue is installed in a safe
place
LIGHTING THE BURNERS
You must have followed all the checks and
procedures in the section headed "Before
the first use" before igniting the Plancha.
• The Plancha cover must always be
open when igniting the burners.
• Do not lean directly over the Plan-
cha when lighting the burners.
• The control knobs on the Plancha
must be in the OFF position. Open
the tap on the gas cylinder slowly.
Before turning the control knob on
one burner, wait for about 10 se-
conds to allow the gas to stabilise.
• Never try to light all the burners at
once.

LIGHTING BURNERS USINGTHE IGNITER
• Open the Plancha cover.
• Open the tap on the gas cylinder.
• Press one of the two knobs in and
turn it to HIGH. You will hear the pie-
zo ignition light once when it clicks.
The spark will light the burner.
• If the burner does not ignite after
three attempts, turn off the gas and
wait for five minutes before trying
again. This will allow accumulated
gas to disperse. Try again, repeating
the previous steps.
• If the burner still fails to ignite, read
the "Troubleshooting" section to de-
termine the cause and the solution,
or use a match as explained below.
LIGHTING BURNERS USING A MATCH
Remove the griddle from the appliance.
Now the burners are visible and easy to
reach. You can now light the burners using
a long match if the piezo ignition does not
work.
• Open the Plancha cover.
• Open the tap on the gas cylinder.
• Hold the lighted match through
the opening about 13 mm from the
burner.
• Press in the desired knob and turn
to 'High'. The fire should light within
five seconds. If not, turn the knob
off and wait for five minutes to allow
the gas to disperse.
• Repeat steps 1 to 5. If the burner
still fails to ignite after three at-
tempts, read the "Troubleshooting"
section.
LIGHTING THE OTHER BURNERS
• The second burner is lit in the same
way as the first.
VISUAL CHECK OF THE FLAMES
If the flames of the burners jump out of the
burner box when the barbecue is in use,
immediately turn off the control knobs.
Wait 5 minutes to allow the gas to escape
before relighting the barbecue. Read the
chapter 'Troubleshooting Guide' if the
problem persists.
Each time you light the barbecue you
should check the flames. (Fig. I) A proper
flame is almost comletely blue, with some
yellow at the top. If the flame is abnormally
small and for the most part yellow, switch
off the barbecue and check the venturi
tubes for obstructions, or read the chapter
'Troubleshooting Guide'.

SWITCHING OFF THE BARBECUE
• Close the gas cylinder valve
• Turn all control knobs of the burners
to 'OFF'.
If you follow the above order, there will be
no more pressurized gas in the system.
USEFUL TIPS FOR USE OF THE
BARBECUE
FIRST USE
Before using your Plancha for the first
time, allow the unit to 'run in' by operating
it for a short period of time without food.
To 'run in' your Plancha, ignite the ap-
pliance.
Keep the temperature on 'HIGH' for 15
minutes. The Plancha is now ready for
use.
PREHEATING THE PLANCHA
The Plancha must be pre-heated on
'HIGH' for at least ten minutes before you
put food on it.
If you want to cook at a lower temperature
than 'HIGH', turn the control knob to the
right position before you put the food on
the Plancha.
COOKING TIME
The actual cooking time will depend on a
number of factors, including your taste, the
ambient temperature and the wind. Experi-
ence will enable you to estimate this time.
