3. Lift the spool of nylon line out of the hub and clear any
broken line or cutting debris from the spool area. (If you
plan to replace the spool or rewind it, this is the place to
do so, otherwise, move on.)
4. Unwrap about one foot (30 cm) of line to ensure that it's
undamaged. If it is OK rewind it and insert the line end
through the eyelet in the spool hub as shown in
figure I. Pull 4 in. (10 cm) of the line through the hole
and maintain tension while placing the spool down into
the hub with the arrow up, as shown in figure M.

5. Press the spool down GENTLY and rotate it until you feel
it drop into place. (When in place, the spool will turn a
few degrees left and right freely). Take care to keep the
line from becoming trapped under the spool.
6. Snap the hub cap back on, and power the tool on. In a
few seconds or less you'll hear the nylon line being cut
automatically to the proper length.
CAUTION:
the cutting line protrudes beyond the trimming blade,
cut it off so that it just reaches the blade.

Rewinding spool from bulk line (use only
.065 in. round diameter line)
Do not use square, star or other shaped line or larger diameter.
These may cause feeding issues or overload the motor.
Bulk line is also available for purchase from your local retailer.
nOTE: Hand wound spools from bulk line are likely to
become tangled more frequently than BLACK+DECKER
factory wound spools. For best results, factory wound spools
are recommended.
To install bulk line, follow the steps below:
1. Unplug trimmer.

3. Remove any remaining cutting line from the spool.
4. Make a fold at the end of the cutting line at about 3/4
inch (19mm)

5. Insert the 3/4 inch (19mm) end of the bulk line into the

in the spool adjacent to the slot as shown in

figure S. Make sure the line is pulled tight against the

6. Wind the cutting line onto the spool in the direction of
the arrow on the spool. Make sure to wind the line on
neatly and in layers. Do not crisscross (figure L).
7. When the wound cutting line reaches the recesses
cut the line. (figure L).
8. Fit the spool onto the trimmer as described in
"rEPlaCing ThE sPOOl".
