STETHOSCOPE REPLACING PARTS
Changing the Diaphragm:
Sprague Rappaport-Type Stethoscopes
include a chestpiece key for easy
diaphragm replacement, fig 1.
Remove either the small or large
diaphragm from the chestpiece.
Place the chestpiece diaphragm side down
on the palm of your hand. Using the key,
twist and remove the inner metal disc for
access to the plastic diaphragm, fig 2.
After replacing the diaphragm, use the
metal key to tighten the metal disc into
place and reattach to the chestpiece, fig 3.
Changing the Components:
Anytime a component is changed, tap one
side of the chestpiece to confirm that the
stethoscope is functioning properly. If no
sound is heard through the binaural tips,
rotate the head 180º or until a clicking
sound is heard. Repeat tap.
