Operating Instructions
Read and understand these instructions before installing, operating, or maintai-
ning the equipment.
DANGER
!
Hazardous voltage.
Will cause death or serious injury.
Disconnect power before working on equipment.
Reliable functioning of the equipment is only ensured with certified
components.
Important notice
The products described herein are designed to be components of a customized
machinery safety-oriented control system. A complete safety-oriented system
may include safety sensors, evaluators, actuators and signaling components. It
is the responsibility of each company to conduct its own evaluation of the effec-
tiveness of the safety system by trained individuals. Siemens AG, its subsidia-
ries and affiliates (collectively "Siemens") are not in a position to evaluate all of
the characteristics of a given machine or product not designed by Siemens.
Siemens accepts no liability for any recommendation that may be implied or sta-
ted herein. The warranty contained in the contract of sale by Siemens is the sole
warranty of Siemens. Any statements contained herein do not create new war-
ranties or modify existing ones.
Application
The 3SE3283-.GA.. hinge switches (see Fig. 1) are used to monitor the position
of the pivoting safety equipment and access panels.
Note
• Only authorized and qualified personnel may connect the switch.
• The switch may not be used as a door hinge when the door is open.
• Please observe the required safety clearances according to EN 294 and
EN 349.
• Please observe the notes in the EN 292, EN 953 and EN 1088 standards.
Installation Instructions and Wiring
1. Remove the contact block (see Fig. ¿).
2. If necessary, break out one or two end-stop openings using an appropriate
tool. Mount M20x1.5 plastic cable glands with sealing.
3. Wire up terminals.
4. Draw the cable through the screw connection and insert the contact block into
the enclosure (see Fig. À).
The cables have to be laid in such a way that no mechanical stress is
exerted on the switching inserts.
5. Tighten the screw connections, check cable strength and align conductors
which have been laid in the interior.
6. Screw on the cover exerting the same torque on all screws (see Fig. Á).
7. After installing the switch, it is very important to check the switching function
and the opening angle of the door. The factory-adjusted opening angle of the
NC contacts ranges between 3.5 to 4° or 8° according to the version.

• The contact designations (see Fig. 2) are listed on the contact elements.
• It is essential to make sure that neither the individual switching inserts nor the
complete contact blocks are mixed up during the wiring process, since the
factory-adjusted switching angle is 3.5 ... 4° or 8° depending on the version
and this switching angle could no longer be guaranteed if the the contact
blocks were mixed up.
• When inserting the cables, make sure that suitable cable glands with the
appropriate degree of protection are used.
• The switch is totally insulated. A PE conductor is therefore not permissible.
The versions 3SE2283-.GA5. (see Fig. 3) are exempt from the BGIA's type
approval certificate.
A damaged or worn out switch has to be completely replaced.
Replacing individual parts or assemblies is not permissible.
