INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Item 1609C/C5 : oil-pressure crimping pliers for terminals and connectors up to a maximum section of
240 mm².
TECHNICAL DATA ON OIL-PRESSURE CRIMPING PLIERS:
Weight: 2.9 kg
Dimensions: 430x130 mm
Crimping force: 50 kN
Maximum stroke: 13 mm
Operating range: 10-240 mm²
STARTING
Before starting the oilnpressure crimping pliers, make sure that all of the following operating conditions are met:
The oilnpressure crimping pliers operate under the principle of the hydraulic press: before pressure is applied to the internal oil circuit, move the tool
arms to make sure that the externally visible seals do not leak.
The terminals and wire rope to crimp must match the mounted dies in terms of both type (copper or aluminium) and size.
The dies have double marks for crimping aluminium and copper wire ropes.
For example, the dies for crimping 10 mm² aluminium wire ropes are also suited to crimp 16 mm² copper wire ropes. The marks are as follows:
CU16 AL10.
Dies ranging from 10 mm² to 120 mm² (copper) are double shaped – that is, they are used for two distinct wire rope sections, depending on how
they are fitted into the oilnpressure crimping pliers. The others, ranging from 150 mm² to 240 mm² (copper) are inserted in the only position where a
hexagonal shape is obtained between the dies.
Alignment in the die seat is provided by spring pins (Fig. 1).When replacing the dies, adjust the spring pins in such a way that replacing the dies will
no longer require any tools in the next stages. To adjust the spring pin, just unscrew it as much as needed to prevent it from touching the die; then
screw the pin. After contact with the die, screw the pin (2 turns). Repeat this operation on all the pins.
The spring pins used have a stroke of approximately 1 mm.
After making sure that proper dies have been mounted, crimp as follows:
1n
Open the head by means of arm "A" (Fig. 2)
2n
Close the head by means of arm "B" (Fig. 3)
3n
Check that the terminal does not move compared to the wire rope in the crimping phase, adjusting, for example, the position of the
revolving head.
4n
Crimp using the tool arms. When crimping is complete, the tool will automatically discharge the pressure of the hydraulic circuit,
thereby avoiding overloads.
Discharge will be perceived through the sudden drop in the amount of force required to operate the arms.
5n
When crimping is complete, after pressure has been automatically discharged, open the dies, using the red lever and bringing the two
arms of the tool near. Fully discharge the pressure, restoring the dies to their initial position; then open the head as shown in Fig. 2.
6n
For increased safety, double crimping is recommended.
7n
The quality of crimping can be inferred from the size pressurenstamped on the terminal, which should be
clearly legible.
GENERAL WARNINGS:
1n Do not rotate the head while pressure is being applied to the oil in the hydraulic circuit
2n Use a microscrewdriver to adjust the spring pins. Never force the spring pins; these might be crushed and lose their ability to hold
the die.
3n Do not apply pressure to oil with the head open.
4n Repairs on this tool must be carried out by trained personnel. Any unauthorized operations will void the warranty.
5n Do not use this tool to crimp any objects other than copper and aluminium terminals.
6n When crimping is complete, lubricate the tool to protect it from rust.
7n Do not work on live systems.
