IMPORTANT! Do not drill any holes until installer has inspected truck:
Determine that the hitch does not interfere with any under vehicle structure, brake lines, electrical wiring, cables, fuel
lines or vents. (Rear axle vent hose will need to be relocated)
HITCH INSTALLATION:
1.
Remove the spare tire and heat shield. And lower the exhaust by removing (3) rearmost exhaust hangers,
creating more room under the truck for easy installation.
Gooseneck center location for 3-3/8" hole (two methods) Method-1: Gooseneck center locator template is
2.
printed on page-5. Cut one of these profile templates carefully and attach it to the gooseneck head sleeve using a
tape/glue before installing the head. Use the center red spot for marking a 3/16" pilot hole after step-4.
3.
Method-2: From the inside of the box, mark the centerline of the box using chalk or some other temporary
marking method. For a 6' 4" beds, measure and mark a spot 38 7/8" along the centerline forward to the rearmost
edge of the truck box floor stiffeners. For 8' 0" beds, measure a spot 40 7/8" forward to the rearmost edge of the
truck box floor stiffeners. (see figure 3.)
From underneath the truck, lift head (1) into position and secure with the supplied ¾" bolts (2) and lock washers
4.
(3) snug-tight at four horizontal locations. (see figure 1 & 2) Note: Head has nuts already welded onto the inside.
Drill a 3/16" pilot hole at the above-marked spot using method 1 or 2. STOP! and quickly confirm the pilot drill
5.
location looking from underneath the truck up through the head sleeve. If not centered, adjust the pilot hole
location accordingly.
From inside of the truck using pilot hole, drill a 3-3/8" hole using hole saw. File the edges and touch up with
6.
paint or a sealer to prevent rust.
7.
Locate and insert nut plate assembly (4) for vertical bolt attachments, above truck cross-member, and below
truck bed, typical both sides. Bend nut plate assembly wire handle as needed and install from front of the cross-
member. Nut plate assembly sits flat on the slightly recessed part of the truck cross-member. (see figure 1 & 2).
Install two vertical ¾" bolts (2) & lock washers (3) up through head and cross-member to nut plate assembly (4).
8.
(Note: After snug tightening vertical attachments, hole cut on the nut plate assembly should align with truck
cross-member center hole and the rear u-blot leg passes through it after u-bolt installation. The rear u-bolt leg
also helps to lock nut plate assembly while torquing vertical ¾" bolts.)
Using the safety chain u-blot holes on the hitch as a guide, drill four 5/8" holes up through the bed. Touch up all
9.
the drilled holes with a file and paint or a sealer. Drop u-blots down through these holes from above as shown in
figure (1 & 2 ). (Note: Rear u-bolt leg passes through nut plate assembly hole.)
10. From under the truck, install conical washers, springs, and 5/8" jam nuts (see figure 1 & 2). Before tightening
jam nuts, lift u-bolts up and down from inside of the bed to assure smooth operation. If not, then enlarge holes,
as necessary. Tighten jam nuts so a minimum of 3 threads are showing beyond the nuts.
11. Torque all six ¾"-10 GR8 fasteners to 282 lb.-ft. (382 N*M) using a torque wrench.
12. Reinstall spare tire, heat shield, and exhaust hangers if removed in step 1.
