The V-VAC Manual Suction Unit is a manual portable unit designed
to provide quick and effective suction. Fully assembled, it weighs
less than one pound (0,45 kg) and can be adjusted to accomodate
different hand sizes or to provide a range of suction pressures from
no more than ~170mmHg up to ~380mmHg. It is possible to
continue suction after overflow has occured.
Intended Use
The V-VAC is a manual suction device intended for pharyngeal
suction. V-VAC is a portable unit designed to provide quick and
effective emergency suction in situations where conventional
powered apparatus cannot be used or is not available.

Warnings and Cautions

Warnings
• All parts except the handle are designed for single use only. Do
not re-use. Re-use will lead to increased risk of cross contamination,
degradation of performance and/or device malfunction.
Laerdal is not responsible for any consequences of re-use.
• Training should take place before the device is used on a patient.
• The V-VAC is not intended for use in an MRI setting. It containes
magnetic parts.
Cautions
• Read these Directions for Use carefully and become familiar with
the operation and maintenance before you use the unit.
• The use of suction devices may require appropriate infection disease
precautions be taken during use, cleaning of the device and disposal
of the cartridges.
• Federal law (USA) restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a
physician.
• Do not block exhaust outlet during use.
• Replacement cartridges are not intended for reuse.
• Keep cartridge compressed until installed in handle. Remove
retaining strap just prior to installation
• Not intended for trachael suction.
• To avoid clogging the exhaust filter when the device is partially
filled, do not point the cartridge tip up

The intake valve (cartridge tip) is designed
to prevent the backward flow of suctioned
matter back through the tip when cartridge
tip is pointed downward.
Note
Should any serious malfunction, undesirable incident with, or deterioration
in the functionality or performance of the device occur, contact
Laerdal promptly. The competent authority where the incident took
place and/or the device was used should also be notified.
Cartridge Installation
1. Hold the handle as shown in your left hand. Holding the cartridge
at a right angle, insert the oval-shaped hole firmly into the fitting on
the handle (see inset).
2. Keeping the cartridge in the fitting, pivot it towards the handle
and then snap it into place with your thumbs. The intake valve is
protected by a plastic cap.
Warning
Be sure to remove this protective cap before using the unit (see inset)
Function Test
1. Squeeze and release the handle a few times to ensure that the
cartridge is correctly installed and that the handle functions
properly.
2. Observe that the cartridge expands and releases.
3. User your hand to observe that air is exiting the suction tip when
releasing the handle
Stroke Adjustment
To adjust the stroke of the handle (and thereby adjust the suction
pressure that can be generated), squeeze the handle and flip the
stroke stop over (see inset). The front position provides maximum
suction pressure of ~380mmHg. The rear position offers a lower
suction pressure with a maximum of ~170mmHg. To secure the
stroke stop, push down until it snaps into place.
Adapter Tip
An adapter tip is provided for additional applications. This can be
