ADVICE TO USERS
These helmet-mounted ear defenders are of large sized range, intended to reduce the harmful effects that noise may have
on the hearing. Warning: These helmet mounted ear defenders are of 'large size range'. Helmet mounted ear defenders
complying with EN 352-3 are of 'medium size range' or 'small size range' or 'large size range'. Medium size range' helmet
mounted ear defenders will fit the majority of wearers. 'Small size range' or 'large size range' helmet mounted ear defenders
are designed to fit wearers for whom 'medium size range' helmet mounted ear defenders are not suitable. For size ranges,
refer to product packaging. The mean mass of SCALA X type ear defenders is 171grams. The mean mass of the SCALA XI
type ear defenders is 240 grams.
WEAR & CARE
Protective products are best cleaned and disinfected with warm tap water and a soft cloth taking care to avoid scratching.
Check before use that all parts are operational and undamaged. Store and transport in original closed packaging (between
0ºC & +30ºC) for up to five years avoiding direct sunlight. The product has an in use life of up to five years. Ear defenders
and in particular cushions may deteriorate with use and should be examined during frequent intervals for cracking and
leakage, for example. This product may be adversely affected by certain chemical substances. Further information should be
sought from the manufacturer.

FITTING & ADJUSTMENT
Fit, adjust and maintain in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Wear at all times in noisy surroundings and inspect
regularly for serviceability. If these recommendations are not adhered to, the protection afforded will be severely impaired.
The helmet should first be adjusted with the ear defenders in the parked position against the helmet sides. Then the ear
defenders should be lowered so that the whole ear is inside the ear defender cup with the seal area contacting against the
head and not the helmet harness. Centurion Ear Defenders are constructed from tough thermo plastic materials for long life.
Cushions are made of expanded PVC, ear seal filled with Polyurethane foam. Hygiene kits (SCALA X and SCALA XI type
ear defenders) are available for use with Centurion ear defenders. See below for fitting instructions for cushions and foam
pads.
FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
To fit ear defender to helmet: Refer to rear of ear defender clip to match clip type to helmet type - see title above. Insert
centre part of clip into helmet accessory slot and apply gentle pressure until located.
To fit clip to ear defender: If the clip is not fitted to the ear defender, select the correct clip according to the helmet type.
IMPORTANT: For clip/helmet compatibility refer to the top of the page. Once a helmet clip is fitted to an ear defender it
cannot be removed. To fit: Once clips are located into the helmet accessory slots, line up the top of the ear defender body to
the bottom part of the accessory clip. Using reasonable pressure, engage the ear defender into the accessory clip and then
rotate upwards (an audible click should be heard). This will enable the ear defender to be rotated within the clip.
SCALA XI - The more rounded end of the cup must be orientated at the bottom when worn. SCALA X defenders are
symmetrical and can be worn either way on either ear.
Cushions: SCALA XI - When replacing, peel away adhesive backed cushion from black ring. Attach new cushion by peeling
from backing sheet and placing in identical position as old cushion. Apply firm pressure to ensure cushion is well adhered.
SCALA X - Insert rim of cup into cushion pad recess and stretch to fit evenly.
Foam Pads: Place foam inside cup ensuring edges do not protrude.
To obtain best performance it is important to ensure suitability for the wearer. It is essential to achieve a good and comfortable
cushion seal around each ear. There must be minimal or no obstructions in this area. No other part of either defender should
clash or contact the helmet shell/other helmet parts (this may have a detrimental affect on attenuation performance). Rotate/
re-position the cup to ensure no contact. If contact persists the ear defender should be deemed unsuitable for the wearer.
Alternative ear defenders should be sought if the fitting criteria are not met. The fitting of hygiene covers to the cushions may
affect the acoustic performance of the ear defenders.
