Within 90 seconds (±30 seconds) of
applying the tape, remove the tape by
pulling in a single smooth action at an
angle of 180° to the coating surface.

Assess the coating adhesion by
viewing the lattice of cuts using an
illuminated magnifier. Compare the
lattice of cuts with the ASTM
standards table shown in Section 5
'Assessing the Results' on page 8.

5 ASSESSING THE RESULTS
The ISO/JIS and ASTM classifications are reproduced in the table
below however, we recommend obtaining a copy of the latest version
of these Standards.

Description
The edges of the cuts are
completely smooth; none of the
squares of the lattice is detached.
Detachment of akes of the
coating at the intersections of the
cuts. A cross cut area not greater
than 5% is affected.
The coating has aked along the
edges and/or at the intersections
of the cuts. A cross cut area
greater than 5%, but not greater
than 15% is affected.
The coating has aked along the
edges of the cuts partly or wholly
in large ribbons, and/or it has
aked partly or wholly on different
parts of the squares. A cross cut
area greater than 15%, but not
greater than 35%, is affected.
