8.- RUNNING AND STARTING.
Before starting for the first time bear in mind the following points:
Check the proper priming of the pumps and pipes, getting rid of any air in the lines, especially in the
suction piping
WARNING For priming, the pump and suction piping must be filled with liquid before start-up, as per
sections :
Liquid level higher than the pump.
Close the on-off valve downstream from the model pumps. Remove the fill/bleed plug and open the
suction valve until the water fIows out off the plug, then re-tighten it
Liquid level lower than the pump.
Close the suction valve of the pump. Remove the fill plug and, using a funnel, fill with water up to the level
of the plug.
After connecting and filling, start the pump with the delivery gate valve closed and check that the rotation
direction is correct (shown on the adapter and coupling) through the coupling protection or fan cover.
Make sure the motor axe turns freely.
Make sure the turning direction is to the right as seen from the top of the motor, and that the mains
voltage coincides with what is stated on the motor plate. The turning direction is inverted in three-phase
motors by changing two supply phases. In single-phase units it is fixed and leaves the factory properly
adjusted.
Check the power consumed and adjust the protection heat relay.
In the event of any anomaly review the list of possible breakdowns and causes given below.
WARNING : THE PUMP SHOULD NEVER RUN DRY
9. POSSIBLE REASONS FOR BREAKDOWNS
THE PUMP DOES NOT PROVIDE THE REQUIRED FLOW
Air getting in the suction pipe
Not submerged deeply enough
Suction filter obstructed
Excessive load losses in suction
Impeller obstructed
Turning wrong way
Load losses in impulsion not estimated
Total manometric height over the specification designed
Regulation valves too tightly closed
THE MOTOR GETS TOO HOT
Supply voltage too high
Cable section under proper size
Cable length longer than specified
Motor winding partially or fully short-circuited
THE MOTOR WILL NOT START
There is no voltage on the line
One phase of the supply is missing
Fuse blown
Heat relay triggered
Magnetic heat switch triggered
Differential relay triggered
Cable short-circuited.
Motor winding partially or fully short-circuited.
