Parts and Accessories - Installation Instructions
This supplementary sheet is required for installation of the sound module system in E38 vehicles with
on-board monitor radio and applies to the following Installation Instructions:
Order No. 01 29 9 790 109 Installation Kit Sound Module BMW 7 Series E38, Left-Hand Drive
Order No. 01 29 9 790 111 Installation Kit Sound Module BMW 7 Series E38, Right-Hand Drive
Important information!
Particular attention must be paid to the following
points:
Section 1
Vehicle Preparation
The following preparatory jobs have been
dispensed with:
– Remove glovebox
– Remove cover in passenger's footwell
– Remove both sill (rocker panel) strips on
passenger's side
– Remove A-pillar trim panel on passenger's
side
– Remove B-pillar trim panel on passenger's
side
– Remove complete rear bench seat
– Remove rear panel trim in luggage
compartment
– Remove radio
Additional preparatory jobs:
– Remove side trim panel on left in luggage
compartment
– If necessary, remove GPS-receiver and
navigator
– Remove video module
– Remove retaining plate for amplifier
– Expose on-board monitor radio (fold back
insulation mat) and disconnect 17-pin plug
connector

Installing Auxiliary Wiring Harnesses
Following figures no longer apply:

F 38 65 055 M from Installation Instructions
Order No. 01 29 9 790 111 right-hand drive
vehicles
They are replaced by:
F 38 65 145 B
Connect 17-pin socket housing (1) from stereo
wiring harness (2) to 17-pin pin housing (3) of
adapter lead (4).
Connect 17-pin socket housing (5) of adapter
lead (4) to the on-board monitor radio (6). Route
ground connection cable (7) to ground terminal
X10305 under left tail light and firmly screw on.
Route voltage supply cable (8) along closing panel
to terminal point for terminal 30 above installation
location of battery.
Continue with figure F 38 65 051 M.
Section 4
Installing Amplifier
Section dropped/replaced by:
F 38 65 146 B
Place cut-out drilling template (1) on rear side of
basic support bracket (2). Mark holes by means of
centre punch on basic support bracket (2).
Now drill out the centre punch marks to d = 4.5 mm
diameter.
