Electrical Considerations:
•
In all cases Herschel recommends using Type C MCB protection because current requirements of the
Vulcan are high and powering up the Ruby Quartz Halogen lamps will cause a momentary current
inrush, which lasts only milliseconds, but can be as much as 12 times normal operating current.
Wiring to single phase is possible but current is high and inrush current must also be considered. 3
•
phase is more sensible and allows for 2 lamps per phase on the 9 and 12kW units.
•
3-phase units must be wired in Star (3 phase Wye) configuration (i.e. Phase to Neutral).
wire in Delta configuration (Phase to Phase) as this will result in significantly higher line currents and
will damage the heater.
2.5mm
cable is used for lamp circuits. 20 amp protection is recommended per phase to protect the
•
2
cable and 6 amps for the fan circuit.
Do not exceed 245 volts to the lamps as this will shorten their life. For 3-phase units this means you
•
must not exceed 415V supply.
•
For Single and 3 phase switching, use a solid state relay with zero cross.
Do not provide partial input signal to the SSRs as this will cause the lamps to flicker. If variable heat
•
output is required from the Vulcan, switch individual lamp circuits on and off.
IMPORTANT
•
heaters are on, and must continue to run for at least a minute after the lamps are switched off. A Fan
Purge Timer switch is available from Herschel to manage the fan operation correctly.
This heater must only be used for the heating of people or buildings.
All operators shall only switch on/off the appliance provided that it has been placed or
: The heater FANS are wired separately to the lamps. FANS must run at all times the
