Instruction Pucci® 405/413
GB
General information
Read the instruction carefully. The product should be fitted by a medical
professional like an occupational therapist, physical therapist, orthopedic technician
or a medical doctor. Patients with diabetes, circulatory problems or sensitive skin
should consult their doctor before use. If the patient is allergic, check the material
content on the backside of the white textile label on the cover for material content.
Indications
The Pucci product is designed to be used for CVA or neurological patients with
spasticity.
Contraindications
Stiff contractures in the wrist or in the fingers might limit the possibility to use the
orthosis. Individual evaluation is recommended.
Pre Application
Evaluate the contractures in the wrist and fingers. Measure the maximum extension
that can be reached in the wrist without the fingers curling up. That's the angle you
should start with on the platform. To select the right size use the measurement chart.
Adjustment
Open all Velcro straps on the splint and remove the cover from the platform.
Bend the platform to the angle of maximum wrist extension that you reached under
point 1. If needed bend the platform over an edge to make it easier. Try the platform
on the hand without the cover. Always make sure that the end of the platform has
a slight slope to avoid digging into the arm when tonus increases. Note that the
deviation of the bladder can't be changed as it's fixated to the platform. Patients with
severe ulnar deviation might be difficult to fit as the stress might lead to the bladder
breaking off.
Now insert the black tip of the pump into the valve and deflate the bladder
completely. Then re-apply the cover.
Application
In preparation for the application it can be a good idea to pre-stretch the wrist and
fingers to reduce the tonus. Apply the platform on the arm and carefully position the
fingers around the bladder. Secure the two straps around the wrist. Make sure to
secure the strap onto the small hook piece on the platform then wrap it around the
wrist and close the Velcro. Make sure that the straps are not too tight as that might
develop edema.
Correct position
The correct position of the bladder should be just under the MCP-joints. Prepare to
inflate the bladder by inserting the clear tip of the pump into the valve on the ulnar
side. Inflate the bladder with about 2 strokes. The bladder should expand but yet
feel soft. Now evaluate the patient. The tonus inhibition should start within the 2-5
minutes, usually by releasing tonus over Dig III and IV then possibly also reducing
tonus over Dig I and II.
