TROUBLESHOOTING
SYMPTOM
POSSIBLE CAUSE(S)
Motor will not run
Fuse is blown or circuit breaker tripped
Motor runs hot and
Voltage is too low
overload kicks off or
motor does not run
and only hums
Motor runs but no
Pump during new installation did
water is delivered*
not pick up prime through:
1. Improper priming
* (Note: Stop pump;
2. Air leaks
then check prime
before looking for
3. Leaking foot valve
other causes.
4. Pipe size too small
Unscrew priming
plug and see if water
is in priming hole).
Pump has lost prime through:
1. Air leaks
2. Water level below suction pipe inlet
Impeller is plugged
Foot valve is stuck shut
Pipes are frozen
Foot valve and/or strainer are
buried in sand or mud
*Pump does not
Water being pumped is lower than
deliver water to full
estimated
capacity
Corroded pipes or hoses
Piping is too small in size

CORRECTIVE ACTION
DISCONNECT POWER; Replace fuse or reset circuit breaker
Check voltage being supplied to pump
In new installation:
1. Re-prime according to instructions
2. Check all connections on suction line, with soapy water or
shaving cream
3. Replace foot valve
4. Re-pipe using pipe the same size as of suction and discharge
ports on pump
In installation already in use:
1. Check all connections on suction line and shaft seal with soapy water.
2. Lower suction line into water and re-prime. If the water level is more
than 25' (7.6M) below the pump, a deep well pump is needed
Clean impeller
Replace the foot valve
Thaw pipes
Raise foot valve and/or strainer above bottom of water source
Clean foot valve and strainer
A deep well jet will be needed if your well is more than 25' (7.6M)
depth to water
Replace with plastic or new steel pipe
Re-pipe using pipe the same size as suction and discharge ports on pump
Inlet pipe is too small
