Drilling:
Use sharp drill bits only. For WOOD, use twist drill bits, spade bits, power auger bits,
or hole saws. For METAL, use steel twist drill bits, or hole saws. For MASONRY,
such as brick, cement, cinder block, etc., use carbide-tipped bits. Be sure the material
to be drilled is anchored or clamped firmly. If drilling thin material, use a "back-up"
block of material so not to damage to the material. Always apply pressure in a straight
line with the bit. Uses enough pressure to keep the drill biting, but do not push too
hard or this may cause the motor to stall or defect the bit.
Hold the tool firmly to control the twisting of the drill.
IF THE DRILL STALLS, it is usually because it is being overloaded - RELEASE
THE TRIGGER IMMEDIATELY, remove drill from work, and determine the cause of
stalling. DO NOT CLICK THE TRIGGER OFF AND ON IN AN ATTEMPT TO
START A STALLED DRILL - THIS CAN DAMAGE THE DRILL.
To minimize stalling or breaking through the material, reduce pressure on the drill and
ease the bit through the last fractional part of the hole.
Keep the motor running when pulling the bit back out of a drilled hole. This will help
prevent jamming.
Hammer Drilling:
The clutch feature of this mode selector collar is a mode change mechanism for screw-
driving and hammer-drilling (see Fig. 2A).

Drilling in Wood:
Holes in wood can be made with the same twist drills used for metal. These bits may
overheat unless pulled out frequently to clear chips from the flutes. Work that is likely
to splinter should be backed up with a block of wood.

To select this mode with high speed provides for masonry or
concrete drilling. The switch has to be released to stop the
running motor when the chuck slipping or shaft locked.
