Operating precautions

Do not obstruct the forced air ducts on the two
sides of the unit.
Do not obstruct the ventilation grilles on the unit.
Do not force the amplifier to operate in overload for
extended periods of time.
Tighten the speaker terminals thoroughly in order
to ensure a good contact.
Never force the control elements (keys, knobs,
etc.).
Do not use solvents, alcohol, benzene, or other
volatile substances for cleaning the external parts of
the unit.
Description
The UP 4242 and UP 4482 power amplifiers have
been expressly designed for the diffusion of
announcements and/or musical programmes in all
P.A. systems. They incorporate the following
functions:
– "INPUT 1" balanced/unbalanced input on XLR
connector and on terminal strip.
– "INPUT 2" balanced/unbalanced input on RCA
connectors and on terminal strip.
– possibility to give "INPUT 1" priority over "INPUT
2".
– adjustable gain on "INPUT 2".
– outputs for speakers at constant impedance (4 Ω ,
8 Ω ) and constant voltage (50 V, 70 V, 100 V).
– protection against fan breakage, overheating,
overloads, and output short circuits.
– auxiliary output for alarm signalling in the event of
malfunctions.
– tone controls for low, middle, and high frequencies.
– middle tone control by means of parametric
equalizer.
– key for excluding the tone controls.
– "FAN FLT.", "OVERHEAT", "OVERLOAD", "SIGNAL",
and "PEAK" indicator lights.
– power supply in direct current at 24 Vdc.
– removable front knob with closure cap.

This LED lights up when a fault causes the fan to
stop. In this condition, the power amplifier stops
working and closes the contact of the auxiliary
alarm relay inside the unit with terminals
connected to the "PROTECT. OUT" terminal strip
(ref. 13).
A CLOSER LOOK: The cooling fan is not
always in operation, but is activated only
when the temperature of the final stages
This LED lights up when the temperature of the
final power stages reaches a dangerous level due
to inefficient cooling or a fault on the primary
protection system (e.g. breakage of the fan or
temperature sensors, fault on the primary
protection circuits, etc.). In this condition, the
power amplifier stops working and closes the
contact of the auxiliary alarm relay inside the unit
with terminals connected to the "PROTECT. OUT"
terminal strip (ref. 13 ).
This LED lights up when one of the protection
devices intervenes (see the section "PROTECTION
DEVICES"). In this condition, the power amplifier
stops working and closes the contact of the
auxiliary alarm relay inside the unit with terminals
connected to the "PROTECT. OUT" terminal strip
(ref. 13).
This LED lights up when the audio signal is
present on the speaker OUTPUT.
This LED lights up when the volume is set too high
and the audio signal on the speaker outputs is
distorted. For correct use of the power amplifier,
the volume should be adjusted so as not to cause
this LED to light up, though it is acceptable if the
LED comes on only occasionally.
This LED lights up when the power amplifier is
switched on.
Knob used for adjusting the final volume level of
the signal available on the "OUTPUT" speaker
outputs (ref. 11). To prevent the master volume
from being changed, it is possible to remove the
know and close the hole in the panel using the
cap supplied with the unit.
