4. Allow f ilter
to dry.
5. Add a few drops of oil to the filter;
squeeze the filter to distribute oil.
6. Replace parts.

REPLACE
SPARK PLUG
Replace the spark plug each year to ensure
the engine starts easier and runs better. Set
spark plug gap at 0.025 in. Ignition timing is
fixed and nonadjustable.
1. Twist, then pull off spark plug boot.
2. Remove spark plug from cylinder and
discard.
3. Replace with Champion RCJ-6Y spark
plug and tighten securely with a 3/4 inch
socket wrench.
4. Reinstall the spark plug boot.
REPLACING
THE LINE
1. Press the tab on the side of the trimmer
head and twist the lock ring.
2.
Remove the lock ring and tap button.

3. Pull the spool out of the trimmer head.
Remove any remaining line.

Clean dirt and debris from all parts. Re-
place spool if it is worn or damaged.
5. Replace with a pre*wound spool, or re*
place line usin@two 20 foot lengths of
0.09&inch
(2.4 ram) diameter Poulan
PRO _ brand line.
6. When installing new line on an existing
spool, insert 1/16 inch of the end of each
line into the anchoring holes in the bed of
the spool.
7. With your finger between the lines, wrap
the lines evenly and and firmly around the
spool in the direction of the arrow on the
spool.
8.
Position the lines in the guide s_ots.
9.
Insert the ends of the lines through exit
holes in the sides of the trimmer head.
10. Place the spool in the trimmer head.
11. Make surethe linesare not caugll between
the rim of the spool and the wall of the trim-
mer head.
12. Reinstall the tap button and Icck ring onto
the trimmer head.
13. Align thelock ring over the catches on the
trimmer head. Push the ring down and
turn until the catches lock into place.

14. Make sure the lock ring is securely fas-
tened by pulling on it andtwisting in bothdin
rections.
,_.WARNING:
All catches must be fas-
tened and the lock tab latched in the lock ring.
If installed incorrectly, the lock ring can fly off
and become a dangerous missile.
15. Pull line extending from trimmer head.
BLADE REPLACEMENT
Refer to the ASSEMBLY section for blade re-
placement instructions and illustrations.
CARBURETOR
ADJUSTMENT
,_'WARNING:
Keep others away when
making idle speed adjustments. Thetrimmer
head or blade will be spinning during most of
this procedure. Wear your protective equip-
ment and observe all safety precautions. Af_
ter making adjustments, the trimmer head or
blade must not move/spin at idle speed.
The carburetor has been carefully set at the
factory. Adjustments may be necessary if you
notice any of the following conditions:
• Engine will not idle when the throttle is
released.
• The trimmer head or blade moves/spins at
idle.
