Troubleshooting
POWER Light is not on.
• Check if Cooktop is securely plugged into a working outlet.
• Cooktop may have tripped the circuit breaker. Make sure it is
the only item plugged into the circuit.
Cast Iron Cooktop is smoking.
• Most heating appliances produce an odor and/or smoke when
used for the first time. Wash Cooktop surface before using.
Plug into outlet. Turn Temperature Dial to 450°F (232°C). Heat
until HEATING Light illuminates. The odor should not be
present after this initial preheating.
• To reduce the buildup of smoke, use Cooktop in a
well-ventilated area.
Cooking performance is uneven.
• To ensure that you are getting even cooking performance,
allow Cooktop to heat until HEATING Light illuminates.
Grease is collecting on countertop.
• Turn Temperature Dial to OFF ( ) and unplug. Make sure
grease has completely cooled before attempting to clean up.
• Before next use, ensure Removable Drip Tray is fully inserted
into unit.
• Clean Removable Drip Tray after every use.
• Use cooking utensils to push grease into Removable Drip Tray.
Food is sticking to Cast Iron Cooktop.
• Make sure that Cooktop is cleaned properly after each use. See
Care and Cleaning.
• Spray with nonstick cooking spray or add oil before cooking.
• Season Cast Iron Cooktop. Follow How to Season directions in
Care and Cleaning.
Cast Iron Cooktop has rust spots.
• Rust spots will appear if cast iron isn't completely dried when
stored. It is easy to fix. Remove Cast Iron Cooktop from Base.
Wash in hot, soapy water while scrubbing with steel wool.
Rinse and dry with a lint-free cloth. Follow How to Season
directions in Care and Cleaning.
