1 Ubbink Filtramax – Pond Filter
Safety
The instructions for use of the pumps used together with the Filtramax Pond Filter and UVC device are to be strictly followed.
To avoid overheating, a UV-C device must be operated only if water is flowing through the housing of the UVC device.
The UVC lamp should be checked by visual inspection through the inspection window provided for this purpose on the device. Never look directly into UV light, direct contact with UVC
rays can cause injury to eyes and/or skin!
Commissioning
• Prepare both filter chambers for setting-up (see Figures B, C, D, F)
- Insert the partition wall
- Fit the filter media into chamber 1 and 2
- Screw the ballvalves (for dirt drainage) onto filter chamber 1 and 2
• Screw the waste connection (hose nozzle 1½" x 50/40 mm) with nut and washer (on the inside of the housing) tightly onto the filter housing. Push the enclosed 40 mm hose piece
onto the hoze nozzle and secure the waste connection with the enclosed 38-42mm hose clamp. For alternative fitting of a waste connection with standard PVC pipes, you need a
screw/adhesive connection 1½" x 50/40 mm and a corresponding PVC pipe element.
• Install the UVC device supplied in the filter lid (see Figures A, E) :
- Unscrew the sealing lid and plug the UVC lamp into the lamp base
- Unscrew the sealing lid again, and ensure the washer is seated correctly.
- Now plug the UVC device into the large filter lid, lay both electrical cables in the recesses provided and screw in the connection unit tightly.
- Cover the UVC device with the small cover and screw with with 2 screws tightly onto the large filter lid from below.
• Place the filter next to or near your pond so that it can still be easily accessed when you later have to maintain the filter. To obtain maximum power, the pond filter must be put in a
place that is in the shade or is partly shaded during the day. Ensure that pond filter is set horizontally and slightly raised on a hard surface, so that both ballvalves are easy to access.
Now prepare the filter pump for connecting to the supply connection (UVC) on the Filtramax. Follow the pump's instructions for use when doing this
• Connect the pump and pond filter with the pond hose that has been cut to the required length. Use the relevant hose nozzles for this. Universal hose nozzles are to be shortened
accordingly.
• Now put the filter pump in the pond. Follow the instructions on minimum water depth and place the pump on solid ground free of mud and sand.
• Before first operating the Filtramax Pond Filter System check once again that
- Closing lid and supply connections of the filter are properly screwed on,
- the ballvalves for dirt drainage are closed,
- the hose connections for filter supply and filter waste are perfect,
- you have read and followed the instructions for use of the filter pump and UVC device.
•
You can bring the Filtramax Pond Filter System into operation in the following sequence:
1 Always switch the pump on first and check whether water flows evenly through the UVC device and the Filtramax Pond Filter.
2 Check the entire pond filter system again for leaks. We recommend sealing leaky hose connections with suitable hose clips or standard teflon tape.
3 Only then switch on the UVC device (if there is one) and check the operation of the UV lamp by visual inspection safely using the device's inspection window (blue light)
Note: during the period of bacteria development in the filter chambers (around 6-8 weeks from commissioning) the UVC device should not be switched on again.
4 It is important that your Filtramax Pond Filter is in uninterrupted operation. Only for maintenance and during the winter period should the system be completely switched off.
5 If the pond filter is to be taken out of operation, always switch the UVC device off first. Only then may the pump be switched off and the water drained from the pond filter.
Modular extension of the Filtramax filter system
• A modular connection of several Filtramax filters should always be done in parallel.
• Follow our pump recommendation for the relevant pond size
Maintenance and Cleaning
• If pump performance falls off, that could mean the pump interior is dirty and has to be cleaned. Please clean the pump in accordance with the instructions.
• If growth of floating algae in your pond visibly increases again, the cause may be a decrease in performance of the UVC device, caused by deposits on the quarz tube and/or a
decrease of the radiation intensity of the UVC lamp. In this case, the UVC lamp must be cleaned or the UVC lamp replaced. To do this, please proceed in accordance with the UVC
instruction.
• Depending on the level of pollution of the pond water it may be necessary - particularly in the first few weeks after setting-up of the filter - to rinse out the dirt sediment from the
filter chambers using the two separate ballvalves. You do not need to switch off the pond filter to do this.
