Pump is air locked
Lift too high for pump
Low voltage, speed too slow
Pump does not deliver
rated capacity
Impeller or discharge pipe is clogged
Impeller wear due to abrasives
No check valve in long discharge pipe allowing water to drain back

this hole is completely normal
Too-rigid piping attachments
Pump is noisy
Cavitation caused by pump being run below the minimum head
The pump runs backwards
Improper wiring in junction box
Circuit breaker trips
Obstruction inside volute causing impeller to be locked
Obstructed pump impeller
Switch stuck in the ON position
Pump running dry
Pump air-locked
Pump short cycling
Protector tripping

Inadequate wiring
overheating)
Incorrect motor connections
Misapplication of the product
Operating the pump at low heads (low discharge restriction)
Pump, motor, bearings, or seal have reached the end of their use-
ful life
Probable Causes
Corrective Action
Check wiring diagram and connections.
Turn on circuit breaker or replace fuse.
Clean float.
Clean float path and provide clearance.
Replace switch
Replace pump.
Check float and float rod path and provide clearance.
Remove pump and clean air bleed hole.
Larger pump required.
Check control wiring for loose or improper connection.
Replace switch.
Check flow-indicating arrow on check valve body to ensure proper
installation.
Remove check valve and inspect for proper installation.
Check rated pump performance.
Pull pump and clean.
Remove pump and clean air bleed hole.
Check rated pump performance.
Check that supply voltage matches nameplate rating.
Pull pump and clean. Check pipe for scale or corrosion.
Replace impeller.
Install a check valve in the discharge line.
Inspect check valve for correct operation.
Install larger basin.
No corrective action is required.
Use a connector or rubber hose to replace part of the discharge line.
Replace the pump.
Replace the pump. Interchange any two of three wires.
Check wiring in junction box.
Remove volute to check impeller. Refer to
Pull pump and clean.
Clean float path and provide clearance.
Ensure the pump has an adequate inflow supply.
Shut power off for approximately 1 minute, then restart. Repeat sev-
eral times to clear air from pump.
Inspect check valve for proper installation and operation.
