The operating light 7 may switch on and off several times during this
process . This is not a malfunction of the appliance! It merely indicates
that the appliance is maintaining the temperature .

The thermostat only operates from the beginning of the temperature
setting scale . Depending on the room temperature, heating up will start
at different positions on the scale .

When the appliance is heated up for the first time, the protective layer
on the heating element 2 burns off . You may notice a small amount
of smoke and a slight smell . This is normal and dissipates after a short
time . Ensure that there is adequate ventilation . For example, open a
window .
The appliance is now ready for use .

To prevent the appliance from overheating, do not place any materials such
as aluminium foil, aluminium trays, plates or the like on the cooking grill 1 .

Never operate the appliance without sufficient water in the drip tray
otherwise, it may
overheat . There is a risk of fire! See section "Topping up the water" .

The surfaces of the appliance become very hot during use . During opera-
tion, touch the appliance only on the heat level control 6 or on the side
handles . There is a risk of burns!
1) Proceed as described in the section "Setting up" (steps 2–7) .
2) Turn the heat level control 6 to MAX and let the appliance heat up for
approx . 5 minutes without food .
