Installing the USB drivers
Windows ME installs the required drivers automatically. You may be prompted to insert the Windows ME
original CD in your CD-ROM drive.
Windows 98
Insert the supplied CD in the CD-ROM drive (before connecting the TARGA DataBox).
Choose "Setup.exe" from the USB/WIN98 directory on your CD-ROM.
The "InstallShield Wizard" is opened. Confirm with "Next"
After you have confirmed the message "InstallShield Wizard Complete" with "Finish", the driver is installed.
Formatting
Attach the external hard drive to a USB port on your PC.
Your Windows 98/ME system cannot recognize a hard disk that has not been partitioned and formatted for
FAT32. As hard disks can also be formatted for FAT32 under Windows XP/2000, we recommend that you
perform the formatting and partitioning in a system running these operating system, if one is available.

Partitioning and Formatting under Windows 98/ME
Once you have installed the drivers and connected the TARGA DataBox, choose Start > Programs >
MS-DOS (DOS input prompt).
Enter the MS-DOS command "FDISK" >Enter
Warning: FDISK is a program that is included in your operating system.
!
You can use FDISK to change the partitioning of your hard disk – including your internal hard
disk – which may result in deletion of data. We therefore recommend that you also consult the MS-
DOS handbook or get an experienced user to perform the formatting.
You can also buy programs in some specialist shops that promise similar or additional functions to FDISK,
but that are easier to use.
If used, these must support large hard disks and this function must be activated.
To switch to your external hard drive, enter the appropriate drive letter.
You need to be absolutely sure that this is the correct drive, otherwise, as mentioned above,
changes to your installed drives can result in data being deleted.
The existing partitions on the TARGA DataBox II 250 must first be deleted.
Then you need to create new partitions. The TARGA DataBox II 250 is displayed under "My Computer" as a
drive, and can be formatted from here.
