OPERATION
NOTICE:
To prevent gear damage, always allow the coupler
to come to a complete stop before changing the
direction of rotation.
WARNING:
Battery tools are always in operating condition.
Lock the switch when not in use or carrying at your
side, when installing or removing the battery pack,
and when installing or removing bits.
SPEED / TORQUE SELECTOR
See Figure 3, page 10.
The speed selector toggle button allows speed adjustments
from high speed, medium speed and low speed. Each press
of the speed toggle button will lower speed from HIGH to
MEDIUM and then to LOW. When pressed again, the speed
will change back to HIGH.
NOTE: The speed can only be changed in this sequence.
 HIGH (3) Speed/Torque (0-3000 RPM/high torque)
 MEDIUM (2) Speed/Torque (0-2200 RPM/medium torque)
 LOW (1) Speed/Torque (0-750 RPM/low torque)
NOTICE:
Never change speeds while the tool is running.
Failure to obey this caution could result in serious
damage to the tool.
MODE SELECTOR
See Figure 3, page 10.
The mode selector toggle button allows mode adjustments.
Each press of the mode toggle button changes the modes
from Self-Drilling Screw Mode, Fastener Assist Mode and
Auto Stop Mode in that order.
Self-Drilling Screw Mode:
The Self-Drilling Screw Mode function is designed to reduce
screw stripping, screw breakage, and damage to work sur-
faces when driving self-drilling screws.
 When driving fasteners (forward setting), the impact driver
will start fast to drive the fastener through the workpiece
and then slow the speed to finish.
NOTE: In the reverse setting, the impact driver will resume
normal operation.
Fastener Assist Mode:
The forward setting of Fastener Assist Mode is designed to
help drive troublesome fasteners into materials easily.
 When driving fasteners (forward setting), the impact driver
will start slow to drive the fastener into the workpiece and
then speed up to finish.
The reverse setting of Fastener Assist Mode is designed to
help remove troublesome/stripped fasteners without causing
additional damage to the driving bit or fastener.
 When removing fasteners (reverse setting) the impact
driver will pulse six times and then speed up to remove
the fastener.
Auto Stop Mode:
The forward setting of Auto Stop Mode offers protection
from over-tightening machined fasteners. It allows for greater
control, reducing damage to fasteners and work surfaces.
 While in Auto Stop Mode (forward setting), the tool will
automatically shut down once it starts impacting.
The reverse setting of Auto Stop Mode offers additional
protection to machined fasteners during removal. It allows
for greater control, reducing damage to fasteners and work
surfaces.
 While in Auto Stop Mode (reverse setting), the tool will
automatically shut down after impacting has completed.
NOTICE:
Never change modes while the tool is running.
Failure to obey this caution could result in serious
damage to the tool.
INSTALLING / REMOVING BATTERY PACK
See Figure 4, page 10.
To install:
 Lock the switch trigger by placing the direction of rotation
(forward/reverse/center lock) selector in center position.
 Align raised rib on battery pack with the groove inside
the impact driver.
 Make sure the latches on each side of the battery
pack snap in place and battery pack is secured before
beginning operation.
To remove:
 Lock the switch trigger by placing the direction of rotation
selector in center position.
 Depress the latches on the sides of the battery pack.
For complete charging instructions, see the operator's manu-
als for your battery pack and charger.
RECOMMENDED BATTERY PACKS
OCTANE
tools are compatible with all RIDGID

If you experience frequent shutoffs due to overload
protection, try using an OCTANE
