GETTING STARTED
The objectives have already been placed in the nosepiece in the right sequence. They
are parfocal and parcentered. Unless necessary, do not remove the objectives. Put the
plug into an earthed power point (see if the right voltage is provided). Switch on the
illumination. To guide the light through the slide and the optical system in the most
efficient way, the iris diaphragm and condenser (**) should be adjusted as follows:
• Open the iris diaphragm completely
• Rotate the nosepiece to place objective 4x in line with the slide
• Unscrew the fixation screw
• Remove the eyepiece from the tube. In BMS EduLed FLArQ bino and trino removal of one
eyepiece is enough. In these models the eyepieces are not secured with a fixation screw.
• Close the iris diaphragm until only 70-80% of the light is allowed to pass through
• Place the eyepiece back in the tube.
In case of an adjustable Abbe condenser N.A. 1,25 please take notice of the following:
when using an objective with a different numerical aperture (N.A.) proper focusing of
the Abbe condenser is important. Adjust the Abbe condenser by turning it up or down.
Make sure that the field of view is evenly illuminated. (**) only applicable in models with
adjustable condenser. Place the slide on the stage, lift up the stage clips or open the
integrated mechanical stage and secure the slide. Make sure the objective with the
smallest magnification (4x) is above the slide. Use coarse adjustment to focus the
specimen. After this, the fine adjustment is used to refine the image. By revolv-
ing the nosepiece, and bringing another objective in the path of light, a different total
magnification will be reached. If magnification is increased step by step, usually
focusing can be done just using fine focusing adjustment.
POWER OPTIONS
1. Main power cable (100~230V/50Hz), available for EU (item no. 76995), UK (item no.
76999), CH (item no. 76998) and USA (item no. 76996).
2. Rechargeable batteries (AA, 1,5V), optional item, can be ordered as a pack of three
(item no. 29554). When this battery pack is placed, it will be charged automatically when
the microscope is connected to the mains and the power switch of the microscope is
switched on. When the LED indicator, located on the back of the microscope, is green,
the battery pack is fully charged. The microscope can now be used, disconnected from
the mains, for 10 hours. When the LED indicator is red, the batteries need to be charged
again. Charging time is about 3 hours.
3. Non rechargeable batteries (AA 1,5V, 3 pieces). The microscope will also work with
these batteries. WARNING: do not connect the microscope to the main electricity when
these batteries are placed. This will cause severe damage to the microscope.
DOUBLE SAFETY IS GUARANTEED
• Full separation from the main power through DPDT* switch.
• Indicator LED to show if main power is switched on and if optional battery is charged
• Potentiometer for regulation of the High Power LED
• High Power LED for bright image
*DPDT (double pole, double throw) when switched off, the power is completely shut off.
The BMS EduLed microscope has a LED illumination light source. This light source is
characterized by low maintenance and low power consumption. This LED source has an
average life span of 50,000 hours. Besides that, this LED illumination system lacks heat
development and is therefore safe to use by children. It is recommended though that an
adult is supervising at all time.
SAFETY INFORMATION
• Always disconnect mains plug from power point before maintenance
• Work in a clean and proper environment
• Think of the safety of yourself and those working around you
• Clean all parts coming in contact with the observed specimen to prevent infection
• Place the microscope on a sturdy, level table or working surface
• Always use original accessories
CAUTION
The delicate components may get damaged if the microscope is not handled with care.
Use the microscope in a clean environment. Do not use it when it is subject to direct
sunlight, high temperatures, humidity or dust. Carry the microscope with care, do not
hold it by the stage. Remove specimen before transport.
REPLACING FUSE
Always disconnect mains plug from power point before any kind of maintenance. The
BMS EduLed microscope is equipped with one glass fuse 1,0 A.
• Wait until the microscope and electrical parts have cooled down.
• The fuse is located on the bottom of the microscope
• Open the housing of the fuse by turning it counter clockwise.
• Take broken fuse out.
• Replace new fuse after being sure of using same rating in new fuse.
• Screw fuse holder clockwise back in place.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
• Please use our special microscope maintenance kit (item no. 76026).
• Always keep the optical parts clean. Please use the dust cover to protect it.
• Avoid contamination of the objectives.
• In case there is dirt on the lens surface, use distilled water to moist and soft cloth to
clean the lens surface. Be very careful and make sure to avoid scratches on a lens
surface. Cleaning can also be done by using an alcohol solution or an optical cleaning
solution. Ventilate the room. Do not soak the lens in(cleaning) liquid.
• To clean the eyepiece- and objective-lens surface, move the cloth in a spiral motion
from the center to the rim.
• Never make a zig-zag movement since this will only spread the dirt.
• To clean painted parts, use also a slightly moistened soft cloth.
• Never use an organic solvent. Use a mild detergent, like soft hand soap.
• Do not remove the objectives from the nosepiece. The objectives were placed in a
particular sequence and are adjusted in order to have a parcentered optical system.
• Never dismantle the microscope. This can only be done by factory and/or dealer au-
thorized staff.
