34SI™ - 35SI™ - 36SI™ REMOTE SENSE JUMPER LEAD INFORMATION & INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT!!! THIS ALTERNATOR MAY HAVE AN EXTERNAL JUMPER LEAD CONNECTING THE OUTPUT POSITIVE (+)
TERMINAL AND THE REMOTE SENSE TERMINAL.
▪
REMOVE AND DISPOSE OF THIS JUMPER LEAD IF THE VEHICLE HAS A LEAD DIRECTLY CONNECTING THE REMOTE
SENSE TERMINAL TO THE BATTERY POSITIVE (+) TERMINAL.
▪
RETAIN AND USE THIS LEAD IF VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A LEAD FROM THE ALTERNATOR REMOTE SENSE TERMINAL
TO THE POSITIVE (+) BATTERY TERMINAL. CONNECT THE JUMPER LEAD ACCORDING TO INSTRUCTIONS BELOW.
This alternator is provided with an external jumper lead that prompts alternator voltage to be at the regulator set-point value
when the remote sense terminal is not connected to the vehicle. If the jumper is removed and remote sense is lost or not
connected, an internal back-up circuit provides continued alternator operation, but at a slightly higher voltage. If this higher
voltage is not desired, the external jumper will by-pass the internal back-up circuit and control voltage at the regulator set point.
ALWAYS USE PROPER EYE PROTECTION WHEN PERFORMING ANY MECHANICAL REPAIRS TO A VEHICLE –
WARNING!!!
INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY INSTALLATION AND OR REPAIRS TO THE DELCO REMY
ALTERNATORS. FAILURE TO USE PROPER EYE PROTECTION CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS AND PERMANENT EYE
DAMAGE.
DANGER!!!
To avoid injury or damage, always disconnect the negative cable at the battery before removing or replacing
the alternator. The alternator output terminal is always live ("hot"). If the battery is not disconnected, a tool accidentally touching this terminal
and ground can quickly get hot enough to burn skin or damage to the tools and surrounding parts.
FOLLOW ENGINE OR VEHICLE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS FOR REMOVING THE OLD ALTERNATOR FROM THE
ENGINE AND INSTALLING THE NEW ALTERNATOR.
!!
CAUTION!!!
Removal or installation of jumper lead should not be attempted with vehicle battery(s) connected to the alternator.
EXTERNAL JUMPER LEAD REMOVAL & INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
▪
Remove alternator battery and sense terminal hardware. When removing or installing alternator hardware, hold the bottom jam
nut with a wrench to prevent loosening the terminals from the alternator.
▪
Remove the jumper lead from the battery and sense terminals.
▪
Replace hardware on the battery and remote sense terminals so it is available for use when alternator is installed into the vehicle.
❖
Recommended battery terminal torque is 6.2-7.9 Nm (55-70 lb in).
❖
