Checking Tire Pressure
Batteryposts,terminals,and relatedaccessoriescontainlead and
leadcompounds,chemicalsknownto the State of Californiato cause
cancer and reproductiveharm.Washhandsafter handling.
Whenattachingbatterycables,alwaysconnectthe POSiTiVE(Red)
wire to its terminalfirst, followedbythe NEGATIVE (Black) wire.
Toconnectthe batterycables,proceedas follows:
NOTE:The positivebatteryterminalis markedPositive(+).The
negativebatteryterminalis markedNegative(-).

Removetheplasticcover,if present,fromthe positive(+)battery
terminaland attachthe redcable to the positive(+)battery
terminalwith the bolt and hex nut. See Figure3.

Positionthe red rubberbootoverthe positivebatteryterminalto

NOTE: If the batteryis put intoserviceafter the dateshownon top/
sided battery,chargethe batteryas instructedin the Serviceand
Maintenancesectionof this Operator'sManualprior to operatingthe
tractor.
Donot overinflatetires.Checksidewallof tires for maximumpsi.
Equaltire pressureshouldbe maintained at all times.
The tires on yourtractormay be overinflatedfor shippingpurposes.
Reducethe tire pressurebeforeoperatingthe tractor.Checksidewall
of tires for maximumpsi.
Setting
the Deck Gauge
Wheels
Movethe tractoron a firm and levelsurface,preferablypavement, a nd
proceedas follows
1.
Selectthe heightpositionof the cuttingdeck by placingthe deck
lift leverin the normallydesiredmowingheightsetting(anyof the
six differentcuttingheightnotcheson the rightfender).
2.
Checkthe gaugewheelsfor contactor excessiveclearancewith
the surfacebelow.The deck gaugewheelsshouldhavebetween
1A" a nd 1/2" clearanceabovethe groundas follows:
If the gaugewheelshaveexcessiveclearanceor contactwith the
surface,adjustas follows:

Raisethe decklift handleto its highestsetting.
b.
Removethe front and reargauge wheelsby removingthe
lock nutsand shoulderscrewswhich securethemto the
deck. See Figure4.
c.
Placethe deck lift leverin the desiredmowingheightsetting.
d.
Reinsertthe shoulderscrew(with eachgaugewheel)into
the indexhole that leavesapproximately _/2-inch betweenthe
bottomof the wheeland the pavement.
