Intended Purpose
The Millex -VV/GV/HV Filter Unit (Sterile) are medical
®
devices intended for use as a syringe filter to sterilize
and/or clarify low volume solutions in direct patient
care and pharmacy admixture applications . Devices
are intended for medical and/or laboratory professional
use only .
Introduction
This document provides compatibility information,
operating steps, and specifications for the Durapore
hydrophilic polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) family of
sterile filters . The bidirectional support of this filter
membrane enables users to filter aqueous solutions
in either direction; forward (from the syringe into
the container) or backward (from the container into
the syringe) . These filters remove microorganisms,
particles, precipitates, and undissolved powders larger
than the membrane's rated pore size. These single-use
filters are non-pyrogenic and non-toxic . They consist
of a membrane filter sealed in a modified acrylic
copolymer (MMA) housing .

Applications
Typical laboratory applications include the sterile
filtration (VV/GV) and/or clarification (VV/GV/HV) of
protein solutions, tissue culture media, additives,
buffers, and water. Clinical benefits include the
removal of microorganisms, particles, precipitates,
and undissolved powders larger than the membrane's
rated pore size from solutions for clinical use. In the
hospital pharmacy, filters with Durapore
can be used for the sterile filtration (VV/GV) and/or
clarification (VV/GV/HV) of small volumes of protein
®
pharmaceuticals, diagnostic imaging agents,
chemotherapeutics, aqueous solutions, or water during
admixture preparation . Direct patient care applications
include sterilization (VV/GV) and/or particulate
removal (VV/GV/HV) from epidural and other liquid
anaesthetics as well as from irrigation solutions used in
ophthalmic, otic, and other surgical procedures .
Chemical Compatibility
These filters are compatible with most aqueous
