1.0 IMPORTANT RECEIVING INSTRUCTIONS
Visually inspect all components for shipping damage . Shipping
damage is not covered by warranty . If shipping damage is found,
notify carrier at once . The carrier is responsible for all repair and
replacement costs resulting from damage in shipment .
2.0 SAFETY
Read all instructions carefully . Follow all recommended safety
precautions to avoid personal injury as well as damage to the
pump and/or damage to other property . Enerpac cannot be
responsible for any damage or injury from unsafe use, lack of
maintenance or incorrect operation . Do not remove warning
labels, tags, or decals . In the event any questions or concerns
arise, contact Enerpac or a local Enerpac distributor for
clarification .
If you have never been trained on high-pressure hydraulic safety,
consult your distributor or service center for information about
an Enerpac hydraulic safety course .
3.0 COMPATIBILITY
These instructions are applicable to the following Enerpac
cylinders equipped with 3/8-18 NPTF relief valves:
• HCR Series
• RR Series
• CLRG Series
• RAR Series
4.0 INSTALLATION
1 .
Fully retract the cylinder plunger .
2 .
Remove all load from the cylinder plunger .
3 .
Fully relieve hydraulic pressure . Disconnect hydraulic hoses
from cylinder .
Before loosening the relief valve:
•
Be certain that load is removed from cylinder plunger.
•
Be certain that cylinder plunger is fully retracted.
•
Be certain that all hydraulic pressure is completely
relieved in both retract and advance circuits and that
both hydraulic hoses are disconnected.
Failure to observe these precautions could result in the load
dropping and/or the uncontrolled release of pressurized
hydraulic oil when relief valve is loosened. Death or serious
personal injury could result.

NOTE: Appearance of cylinder and exact location of relief
valve will vary, depending on cylinder model .
4 .
Remove cap (if equipped) .
5 .
Loosen and remove old relief valve .
NOTICE
Relief valve may be difficult to remove if the cylinder
is old or has been exposed to harsh environments . If difficulty
is encountered, Enerpac recommends performing the following
steps in the order shown:
a .
Spray the area where the relief valve is threaded into
the cylinder body with penetrating oil . Ideally, this
should be done several times over a period of a few
days to allow the penetrating oil to work .
b .
Apply torque to the relief valve to attempt to remove the
relief valve from the cylinder body .
c .
If the relief valve does not loosen with a reasonable
amount of force, take the cylinder to an Enerpac
Authorized Service Center for inspection and repair .
Removal could damage the cylinder body threads and
make the cylinder unusable .
6 .
Remove any old lubricant, sealant, thread tape, or metal
shavings from the relief valve threads in the cylinder body .
Be certain that threads are clean .
7 .
Inspect the threads . If threads are damaged, take the
cylinder to an Enerpac authorized service center for
inspection .
8 .
Install new relief valve in cylinder body and torque to
40-60 ft-lbs [54 .2-79 .2 Nm] . Refer to cylinder repair parts
sheet for relief valve part number .
9 .
Install new cap onto relief valve .
10 . Reconnect hydraulic hoses to cylinder . Operate cylinder
under no load to verify proper operation before returning
cylinder to service . Verify that there are no oil leaks .
