Change in pigmentation
Pulsed-light epilation acts on the hair shaft, particularly on the pigmented cells of the hair
follicle and on the hair follicle itself. However, there is a risk of temporary hyperpigmentation
(increased pigment or brown discolouration) or hypopigmentation (whitening) of the
surrounding skin. Changes in skin pigmentation are more common in people with darker skin.
Discolouration or changes in skin pigment are usually temporary and hyperpigmentation or
hypopigmentation rarely occurs.
Excessive redness and swelling
In rare cases, the treated skin may become red and swelled. This is more common in sensitive
areas of the body. The redness and swelling should subside within 2 to 7 days. Applying ice on
the area may help reduce swelling. Gentle cleaning of the skin is allowed, but exposure to the
sun should be avoided.
