TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS FROM OUR EXPERTS
TIP 1: CHECKING THE DEVICE (ILLUSTRATION 1)
1. Remove the knurled nut from the grounding and fence outputs.
2. Connect the grounding output to the grounding stake of the fence tester.
3. Next, connect the fence tester to the fence output. The display should now read >6000 V. Only
use 2-pole fence testers for measurements (with grounding stake). Never use 1-pole testers!
TIP 2 CHECKING THE FENCE SUPPLY CABLE
1. Switch the device off.
2. Disconnect the fence supply cable at the fence.
3. Switch the device on again and take a measurement on the fence supply cable. (The voltage here
should be almost identical to the voltage at the energiser.)
TIP 3: CHECKING THE GROUNDING (IMAGE 2)
How do I measure the voltage on the grounding stake?
1. Short-circuit the fence wire with the ground at a distance of roughly 10 m from the grounding
point (e.g. using iron rods).
2. Now measure the voltage between the ground and the grounding point (the voltage should not
be more than 1000 V). If there is any voltage at the grounding point even before the iron rods are
inserted, the earthing must be improved.

TIP 4: POWER SUPPLY
1. 9 V devices: Battery should be between 4–9 V.
2. 12 V devices: Battery must have more than 11.4 V. Deep discharge is possible below 11 V.
3. 230 V devices: Devices must be flashing, if necessary try with a different power connector (no
flashing = defective).
NEVER USE INVERTERS WITH 230 V DEVICES!
TIP 5: FENCE SUPPLY CABLE
1. Underground cables should only be installed using Item no. 32611/32612. (We recommend laying
them in a protective tube.)
2. Underground cables should be protected from sharp edges. If possible, lay them on insulators to
prevent arcing.
3. The fence supply cable should only be laid using high voltage-proof cables. No cables for indoor
installation should be used (permitted only up to 500 V).
