3. Assembly, installation & putting into operation
See section 3.4 for recommendations regarding the pump sets.
31 Assembly & installation
1. Remove the packaging and check for damage on the pump. Contact the transport
company if the pump appears to be damaged.
2. If the reservoir comes with two 'caps', remove the 'transportation cap' and fit the bleeder
in its place. The transportation cap is fully sealed and the bleeder has a filter. On the
bigger pumps (AP8000), the bleeder is integrated in the cap and should be rotated 1 turn
to release it.
3. Connect the pump to the appropriate accessories. The AP921 is supplied with a 1.5m
hose, provided with quick coupling.
4. Ensure that all the couplings are properly tightened.
5. When using quick-release couplings, ensure that they are properly twisted on.
6. Use only threaded seals that are suitable for hydraulic oil.
7. Bleed the system before using. Air in the system will make its way up to the pump and exit
via the reservoir if the pump is placed higher than the accessories.
32 Testing and putting into operation
1. Check to ensure that the bleeder is fitted on the reservoir, or whether it is open.
2. The system can be put under pressure once the accessories have been properly coupled.
With new cylinders, or cylinders that have not been used over long periods, initially allow
each cylinder to go through a complete stroke 3 times. See section 3.3 for an explanation
of the valves.
3. In order to ensure that the system is free of leaks and completely sealed, bring it up to
pressure and then allow it to stand for 10 minutes. Wear safety goggles or face mask
when checking for leaks. NEVER 'feel' for oil leaks!
4. Topping up the hydraulic oil should only be done when all the cylinders are fully retracted.
The pump must be in a horizontal position when topping up.
33 Explanation of the valves
Single-action models:
The single-action models AP921, AP1600S, AP3000S, AP13S, AP18S are fitted with a valve
that is closed by default. The AP8000S has a valve that has to be closed manually. In closed
position, the valve prevents the hydraulic oil from flowing back to the reservoir. The valve
must be open in order to retract the cylinders. Please note! The valve should be opened
very carefully when the cylinder is under pressure in order to prevent personal injury
or damage to equipment!
