LIFETIME, SERVICE LIFE AND INSPECTION
- The maximum lifetime under ideal storage conditions and independent of the use is 12 years
from the date of production.
- The maximum service life begins with the delivery to the end-user (proof e.g. by purchase
receipt with serial number and/or data entry in the product-specific instructions for use) and is
10 years without recognisable wear and tear and under ideal storage conditions. If there is no
documentation of the date of delivery to the end-user, the maximum service life begins with
the production date stated on the product.
- With the start of the service life, the product must be inspected and, if necessary, serviced
by a competent person as required, but at least every 12 months. Only this compulsory annual
inspection will validate the condition of the equipment and whether or not it should be kept in
service. Irrespective of the maximum lifetime, the discard depends on the condition of the product,
its frequency of use and the external operational conditions. The PPE loses durability in the course
of its service life. The durability is determined by use, thermal, chemical, mechanical and other
harmful influences.
- Ensure that the identification sheet and the maintenance monitoring table is kept up to date from
the time of the commissioning and during each inspection.
INTERPRETATION OF THE MARKINGS #5
Identification label :
(1) PPE reference, (2) Serial N°, (3) Date of manufacture, (4) Pictogram showing the maximum rated
load and size of the harness, (5) Pictogram requiring that the instructions be read before use, (6)
Manufacturer's logo, (7) Address of the marketing authority, (8) CE Marking, (9) Identification of the
notified body that intervened in the inspection and production phase, (10) Reference standard :
year of issue.
