Caution! Do not try to force the lid open. The lid locks automatically when
pressure builds up inside the chamber. If the appliance is difficult to open,
adjust the steam release valve to reduce the pressure.
It is recommended to saute foods with an open lid. If the recipe calls for
the closed lid, simply cover the appliance with the lid, without locking it.
Steam Release Valve
The steam release valve is located on the lid. Select one of the 2 positions
depending on the desired method. If the valve is in:
• CLOSE position – the appliance cooks under high pressure (pressure
cooker mode);
• OPEN position – the appliance cooks under normal pressure
(multicooker mode).
When cooking dishes that do not require a lot of liquid (rice, stews, etc.),
the steam release valve can be opened right after the cycle is complete.
When pressure cooking liquids (soup, puree, etc.) let the device cool down
for 5-10 minutes before opening the valve to avoid contents venting
through the steam outlet.
CAUTION! Opening the steam release valve during or after use may cause
a powerful vertical burst of steam. Please, be careful!
General Pressure Cooking Guidelines
The closed position of the steam release valve causes the device to form a
hermetic airtight environment where high pressure is being built up and main-
tained. The device automatically locks the lid when the pressure rises. The Elec-
tric Pressure Cooker REDMOND RMC-PM4506A is equipped with a multilevel
safety protection system. In case the temperature or pressure inside the cham-
ber exceeds the safety limits, the system automatically interrupts the process.
When characteristics get back to normal the cooking process is resumed. In
case the pressure or temperature do not normalize within a certain time period,
a special safety feature disconnects the power and stops the operation.
Caution! Use at least 2 measuring cups of water or other liquid when
pressure cooking.
Do not fry food with oil under pressure. Instead, sauté chopped vegetables
in a small amount of oil with the open lid.
