4. OPERATION AND USE

4.1. Start up

To start the EPC200 push the switch labelled POWER (6) and the green pilot-light inside
the switch will shine. Although the noise produced when starting up the EPC200 is minimum, we
highly recommend to start the audio chain following the sequence: sound sources, mixer,
equalizers, EPC200 and power amplifiers. Stop the chain inversely, in order to avoid possible
damage to the loudspeakers.

4.2. Indicators and adjustments

SIGNAL PRESENT INDICATOR (1-2). Two green LEDs on the front panel show the
presence of a signal at the inputs of the EPC200.
OVERLOAD INDICATOR (3-4-5). Three LEDs show the saturation of any output (L-bass,
M-mid, H-treble). The indicators are common to both input channels (L&R). The LEDs will shine
whenever an excessive signal level is sent to the amplifier inputs.
PHASE
(10-17). The phase adjustment switches are on
the back panel and enable the phase selection of
the bass and treble loudspeakers in relation to
the mid ones, wich are taken as the reference. In
addition, the bass way can be continously
adjusted from 0º to 180º by means of a
potentiometer (12) thus yielding to a complete
360º turn if both are used. This special capability
is specially useful at frequencies near the cut-off
bass
band
(around
frequencies can be enhanced or attenuated. It
can also extend the response for very low
frequencies. The Fig.3 shows the response,

techniques, of an EPC5002 with the Bass Boost
connected (13) and both switch (10) positions
(continous line: 0º, dotted line: 180º). Note the
drop of the response at 170Hz. This drop, under real conditions different from the measure, can be
more intense or even become an enhancement peak.
The start position is with both adjustments at 0º. Select a musical piece with plentiful
bass, place yourself at a distance greater than 10m from the cabinet and make a fast test by
means of the switch. Never make the adjustment at the side or behind the cabinet! Once you have
selected the most favourable position of the switch from the point of view of "cleanliness" and
bass level, adjust the potentiometer. Repeat the process various times.
