6 Replacing the Battery

Never operate the thermometer when
it is open.
If the symbol
battery must be replaced.
1) Switch off the thermometer and re-
move the protective rubber frame.
2) Remove the two screws of the battery
compartment cover at the rear side of
the thermometer and take off the
cover.
3) When replacing the battery, observe
the correct polarity, i. e. insert the bat-
tery in such a way that the connecting
contacts lock into place correctly.
4) After replacing, screw down the bat-
tery compartment. Do not operate the
thermometer until then. Attach the
protective rubber frame, if required.
7 Operation via a Computer
As minimum hardware requirements, a
80486/33 MHz processor and 16 MB
RAM are recommended. The required
software is Windows 3.x
®

7.1 Installing the THERMO software
1) Start Windows 3.x
on your computer.
2) Insert disk 1 into the disk drive.
3) Start the file "setup.exe" on the disk,
e. g. from the file manager by double-
clicking the file name or via the menu
"FILE", menu item "Execute" and
"Search".
4) After starting the installation, the direc-
tory is requested into which the soft-
ware is to be copied. "C:\THERMO" is
suggested. Either confirm by "Finish"
or change by "Change".
5) Insert the second disk during the in-
stallion after the request "Please in-
sert disk number 2 in drive A" and
confirm by "OK".
6) After successful installation, "THER-
MOMETER installation successful!"
is displayed. Confirm by "OK".
7) In the program manager, the new
window "THERMO" appears, contain-
ing among other things the starting

file "THERMO.EXE" with the corre-
sponding symbol. The following files
have been copied into the new direc-
tory "THERMO":
data.dat
iw-en.lrm
lvdev5.dll
8) If the software is to be deleted from
your computer again, double-click the
symbol "Uninstall THERMOMETER"
to start the deletion process.
7.2 Setting up a connection to the
computer
1) Connect the plug marked "IR2" of the
supplied adapter cable to the jack
"RS232" (1) of the thermometer
(marking upwards). Connect the
other plug to the jack of the RS-232
interface of the computer.
2) Start the software on the computer by
double-clicking the symbol "THER-
MO.EXE" in the window "THERMO".
The menu "THERMO" shown in fig. 2
(page 3) appears on the screen. (The
sign "WORKING" is not displayed yet
at that time.)
3) Switch on the thermometer with the
button
(3).
4) Click the "START" button in the
®
menu. The measuring program is
activated and both the date (month/
day/year) and the time are updated
in the menu. Above the "START" but-
ton, a blinking "WORKING" is dis-
played. The automatic cutoff of the
thermometer is deactivated.
5) If "RS-232 ERR" above the "START"
button blinks or if the time is not up-
dated in the menu, there is no con-
nection to the computer. By clicking
the arrows below the field "COM
PORT", the port number can be cor-
rected (COM1 – COM4). Other pos-
sible sources of errors:
— adapter plugs do not fit correctly
— wrong jack on the computer has
been used
— thermometer was switched off in
the meantime or is still switched off
After switching on, first click the
button "STOP" and then "START"
again in the menu!
