The easiest way is always to start from the highest
possible binary value and to add the smaller values
until the total results in the start address. (DIP switch
No. 10 serves for the reset function, see chapter 6).
A start address manager can be downloaded from
the internet (www.imgstageline.com, support soft-
ware) as an aid for adjusting.
After adjusting the start address for the control
channel 1, the control channels 2 – 5 are assigned to
the subsequent addresses. Example:
Start address 104 = control channel 1
Address 105 = control channel 2
Address 106 = control channel 3
Address 107 = control channel 4
Address 108 = control channel 5
In this example, the address 109 can be used as the
next possible start address for the subsequent DMX
controlled unit.
5 Connecting
All connections should be made by skilled personnel
only.
1) Connect the DMX control unit to the XLR in-
put DMX IN (1). If the control unit is provided with
a 3-pole XLR connection, use an adapter (e. g.
NA-3M5F from the "img Stage Line" range).
For connection, it is recommended to use spe-
cial cables for high data flow. Use of standard
microphone cables is recommended only for a
maximum cable length of 100 m. The best trans-
mission quality is obtained with a screened micro-
phone cable of 2 x 0.25 mm
transmission cable. For cable lengths equal to or
greater than 150 m, it is recommended to insert a
level matching DMX amplifier (e. g. SR-105DMX
by "img Stage Line").
2) Connect the jack DMX OUT (3) to the DMX input of
the next DMX controlled unit. Connect the output
of the latter to the input of the next unit etc. If the
next unit is provided with a 3-pole XLR connection,
use an adapter (e. g. NA-3F5M from the "img
Stage Line" range).
The jack DMX OUT is equipped with a latching
device. To remove the plug, press the lever PUSH.
3) Connect the control outputs (5) to the units to be
controlled. To facilitate handling, the terminals can
be removed from their plug-in connections. The

maximum loads of 8 A/250 V~.
Caution! While connecting, the cables must not
carry any voltage. The mains voltage
must never be applied, otherwise this
may result in an electric shock.
4) Finally connect the mains plug of the connection
cable (6) to a mains socket (230 V~/50 Hz). After
that, the SW-5DMX is ready for operation.
To switch off, disconnect the plug from the
socket.
6 Control
On the DMX control unit, select the address for the
desired control channel. To switch on the channel, ad-
just a DMX value between 128 and 255 with the cor-
responding control on the control unit; to switch off,
adjust a value between 0 and 127. With the control
channel switched on, the corresponding LED (4) will
light up.
In case of incorrect operation of the control, the
fault may be eliminated with the reset function. For
this purpose, shortly set the DIP switch No. 10 (2) to
the lower position. To continue operation, set the DIP
switch to the upper position again.
